For those wondering you can trick the HV hybrid system to use the battery only while using the cruise control. I can usually trick it doing it low speed and on a flat road with no head wind. the engagement is tricky as i cant get it to do it consistently. I have to let off the gas and hit the CC button and hope the HV mode kicks in at the same time, the timing has to be just right for this to work.

As you can see, the HV meter is showing i am on battery mode and the CC is set for 31 mph and maintaining 31 mph and the CC icon is green (CC is engaged). once it hits the 3rd bar it will shut off and the engine will turn back on.

Ive gotten up to 42mph on battery only with flat-slightly downhill and no cruise control. Once you get it, its almost second nature. Im shocked im getting better gas mileage in this than i was in my WRX i had

I've seen exactly what Nodak is describing. I've seen it happen in cruise mode at 70 MPH on a long downhill.

And it works without cruise too if you softpedal (note no cruise speed set here).

Cruise speed set but not active here:

I managed 55 mph from a stop sign the other day. No engine, electric only. Slightly downhill, and if there would have been anybody behind me, they'd be LIVID with how long it took to get there LOL

i guess we all try to play the little game in the HV vehicles :)

usually i cant get it to work in town, too many stinking hills since i live in the valley portion of town.

usually i can get it to do this when after i process thru the main gate at base and get up to the 30 mph speed limit. its about a mile to the the 1st of only 2 lights on base.

I noticed the higher the battery level the easier it is to get to go into HV as well, sometimes when I'm at only 2 bars it just won't engage at all.
