I fitted 1up Super Duty (two tray) yesterday to confirm hitch engagement to make sure it met the 1up requirements. It does. 5” of the insert inside the hitch. 2.4” outside. Clears the vehicle nicely. The anti-wobble ball is about 2” from the end of the hitch too. The back of the insert is flush with the back of the hitch, no overhang.

Might be different for other models and these details are ONLY for the 1UP brand.

Brumey,
I did not mean to disappear on you. I looked for my instructions for the 1Up USA Super Duty carrier that we both have. Could not find them (old age creeping in?) but went to their website and downloaded the manual.

We are in agreement, but my comment probably was misleading because of how I worded it to reflect how much of the carrier is outside of the hitch receiver rather than inside it.

The instructions say “Insert Rack to desired depth in receiver. Ball must be inserted a minimum of 2’’. Silver ball should not stick out front of receiver.”

https://1up-usa.com/content/pdf/SuperDuty-INSTRUCTIONS.pdf

So if you insert the silver ball to that depth you will have about 3” of the shaft still exposed. Not a problem on my Ram 1500 pickup. It is more of a concern on my Sprinter van because I installed a rear step. (I don’t plan to use the carrier on my 4Runner.)

Sorry if I confused anyone!!

No worries. Seems they have conflicting info too.

Just a follow up on your test fit…

When you mounted the carrier on your 4Runner, did its security pin “track” line up ok with the hole in the receiver itself so that you could insert and secure the pin?

Yes, the hitch insert has a slot. I have the longer pin, lock and it lines up. I also purchased the locking cover that goes on the end of the hitch insert covering the locking, anti wobble screw. No modifications have been made.
