Looking at some of the pictures and data, TRD PRO and Trailhunter are listed as having a higher approach angle bumper. From the pictures it looks like the front air dam has been removed. Is that it, or is there more to it than that?

The front bumper in front of the wheels/tires is cut out higher as well.
They are still as low as the rest at lowest point . I think that is gives extra clearance against tire rub.

Really its going to be the fact it has a small front end lift and no air damn.

Correct, I was more-so just pointing out a difference in the front bumper design. Still helps a bit with approach if approaching from one of the corners rather than head-on.

any 4runner would have the same approach angle with the air dam removed and the same size tires/lift.

I've inserted a helpful reference quote below. (from Ground Clearance Approach/Departure Angles, etc)
I do not think the shape of the bumper parts is much different in any measurable way. (Maybe a bit). Differences seem to be from different suspension geometries ("lift") relative to the different trims - and the air dam:>)

I measured it as in the picture.

- With air dam, it gets ~22°, which is slightly greater than official 19°. Given that we'll air down when "offroading" where the approach angle really matters, it will possibly drop from 22 to 19° in reality.

- W/O air dam, it gets ~30°, which is 3° smaller than TRD PRO. I presume it's because of the higher ground clearance on the PRO.

Edited:
Make it an apple to apple virtual visual comparison, I also did it on the PRO.
