First Camping Trip with My TRD ORP. Towed camper and got 21.3 MPG

Started at Lake Tahoe where I live most of the time and traveled camping up the Oregon coast to Astoria (purchased my 4R here) where I have a house. Spent some time on the beach running the dog. Great fun!

I have 7K miles on the 4R. After the 1000 trip, pulling the camper, my average mpg dropped from 22.3 to 21.3. I'm thinking that wasn't bad. Anyone have thoughts on this statement. BTW, it is a hybrid.

That's a great looking camper trailer. And 21.3 mpg from 1K miles towing that is pretty darn good!

I don't even get 21 MPG without the trailer haha. Mine drops down to about 12 MPG with the trailer.

You must be towing under 60MPH and it looks like your trailer load is around 2000 pds? Towing our 5k pd trailer under 60MPH we get 12MPG and over 70MPH on the Interstate 9-10MPG. Ours is a Hybrid as well so really curious how you only drop 1MPG?

Based on your explanation, I suspect the average quoted is for the full 7000 miles. 6000 without the trailer and 1000 with. So with the trailer your mpg is closer to 17.
Still sounds ok based on other responses.

I don't know how you get that MPG. I get 15 mpg with just bigger tires (285 X 70 X 17 Toyo RT (C). And I have the hybrid.

You have 285/70r17 in Load C (32.7" tall)
The 4runner comes with 265/70r18 in Standard Load SL (32.6" tall)

They are basically the same size tires.
The biggest difference is that you have heavier C load tires with a deeper tread depth. And that's not taking into account the specific trad pattern, which also affects MPG.

Had you went with something like a Nitto terra grappler G3 in Standard Load and shorter tread depth, you be seeing much better MPGs.

thats a great looking camper. Been thinking of getting one because I like camping but am kind of over the whole tent camping thing. I was disappointed to find that most campers in my budget of ~10k get some really bad reviews
