If I understand the salesman (and he's not handing me a line) it's Toyota, not the dealership that requires a deposit. Once they have one and know you're serious then you are actually put in line to get one. Otherwise the dealer can't get anything other than what's allotted to them. Since they don't show up on the spreadsheet currently being allotted any Pros and I only want a Pro they either get my deposit or they have to say "Sorry we can't help you". Assuming they work on commission who would want to pass up a sale on a commission on any vehicle, not just a more expensive one.
My salesman was off yesterday but wanted me to call him anyway. I didn't want to disturb him but I may text him either today or tomorrow. I do have several things I want to confirm and would rather not feel rushed, like I was eating into his time off.
