Hey everyone,

Looking for some advice from anyone who's wired up auxiliary lighting on the 6th gen 4Runner Hybrid, specifically using the factory Toyota AUX switches.

With BF around the corner, I'm planning to run:
  • 2x Baja Designs Squadron 2.0 Sport ditch lights
  • 1x Baja Designs 20” S8 light bar (lower Pro grille)
Ideally, I'd like to keep everything running through the factory AUX switches and Toyota pigtails. I'm trying to avoid adding something like a SPOD or Switch-Pros at this point, since I don't anticipate having a ton of additional accessories to wire up down the road.

My initial thought was to put all the main lights (both ditch lights + light bar) on one AUX switch, and all the backlight functions on another. That way, I can turn on the main lighting together, or just run the backlights independently.

A couple questions:
  1. Has anyone done something similar using AUX 1/2 vs AUX 3/4? Is there a reason to favor one set of switches over the other?
  2. Is there any reason I shouldn't combine the two ditch lights and the S8 light bar onto one AUX circuit? I can't really see this as an either/or situation. If I'm in a situation where I need the ditch lights, I'd probably want the light bar on as well. Seems more useful to have them come on together rather than use two separate switches.
  3. From an electrical standpoint, is the combined draw too much for a single factory AUX circuit?
  4. For the backlights, can the two Squadron backlights and the S8 amber backlight be tied into a single AUX switch? Any quirks with the Baja Designs harnesses I should be aware of?
Mostly looking for recommendations on how others have approached this, especially if you've done it on the Hybrid with the factory AUX wiring. I've been going back and forth on this idea for a while and needed to recruit your expertise and guidance.

Appreciate any advice, wiring diagrams, or pictures of your setups. Thanks!

You can hook up whatever you want. The AUX switches have ratings and they're not all the same. To get around the rating and switch multiple loads at a time on one switch, you can use the switches to operate relays that do the heavy lifting, the load switching.
