Cleaning door jams/behind rubber seal, and window seals.

For those of you who who drive down super dusty roads or muddy, and clean every square inch of the car… are we removing these rubber door seals or just cleaning behind with a garden hose really deep? Worried about these not fitting nicely after fully removing and cleaning but this crap building up behind is asking for that

Also for window seals, can i really get the power washer at the car wash right in these seals? Or am i asking for leaks down the line? If i cant how do you get this crud reliably? I have semi sausage fingers and it doesn’t work well with the microfiber by the looks of it.


she looks fine from afar but when you start looking in all the nooks and crannies she’s beat the f up and I kinda feel bad about it even though I am having a blast…

Give them a good cleaning with a detail brush getting behind and flushing that stuff out. From that point when you wash the car after you're done give the door jambs a quick wipedown with a spray wax. Keeps them slick and clean, gets easier every time as they are waxed.

Thanks for the tip on the wax, I was impatient and did what you said anyway with a detail brush, some wet paper towels and a hand water pump so I was able to flush a ton of shit out so all good.

Tomorrow i need to clean more anyway and do my second oil change at 9500miles, so i will hit it with wax then. Had the hose in the fender flares for 5 min a piece before i realize time would be better spent taking those off lol

Keeping this thing clean is a nightmare but between all the holes in the frame rails, and actually being able to get behind these rubber seals and flares easily, seems like they took into consideration people will beat the crap out of their daily like me

If anybody has any other pointers on things i missed to clean (already did my filter and vents for battery engine and cabin) or pro tips how to keep it better prepared for future trip, itd be much appreciated.

I would say you got a good start. A cheap detail brush to agitate the stuff and a cheap pump sprayer would probably keep you ahead of the curve. I find microfibers work fine for this area, I usually grab a bunch of the Harbor Freight ones when they're free or like $1 and use them specifically for door jambs and wheels. Cheap enough to just throw away when you're done with them. Pump sprayer is like $5 at HF as well and any spray wax will work just fine in a door jamb. I find when I do it every time or every other time I wash, it only adds like 5 minutes to the job. You can fill the pump spray with water and just use the pressure to flush out the debris, with little to no worry about ruining the seals.

Do not forget about your tail gate and under the hood. I put ceramic there and in the door jambs. Cleans off easy and a quick spray wax will make it easy next time. Glad your having fun.

Yes got under my hood with an dirt/grease remover and let it sit a bit them hosed down, plan on doing it again because I’m pausing any trips for a couple months and just enjoying the beach/ocean while I can

But thanks for the tailgate tip because i realized it keeps accumulating dirt and sand from somewhere after I drive off from cleaning? Where is that coming from lol. There will just be super dirty streaks across my tailgate above my hitch and right beneath my license plate, but its not under my license plate…. Is it somehow like behind the toyota badge on the back where the backup sensor and button is?
