2025 2026 4runner 6th gen Cargo Floor Hatch DIY Build - Non Hybrid IMG_6343

First post. Been lurking for a while learning and seeing all the awesome stuff people do. Here’s my DIY cargo floor hatch build to use the extra space underneath my 2025 TRD Off Road non hybrid.

Plywood covered in roll on bed liner. Rear of floor is raised about an inch to give additional storage room but is still under the top o the lift gate latch panel. Removed the mount plate brackets under the OEM cargo deck and relocated the flip up mounting units about 3 inches forward to thread directly into existing frame holes. Had to use a M10 to M8 threaded insert so the bolts fit into the mount loops.

The hollow is covered with 4mm closed cell foam sold for sound deadening but I may need to alter as it’s easy to scratch and tear. Piano hinge, gas spring strut, and electric solenoid cabinet latch ran to a hidden button to release. Also installed a 12v dual USB-c unit so it charges my M12 batteries and Wolfbox jumper/inflator on ignition.

Everything is bolt on or stick on except the small hole for the button drilled into the cubby. I can uninstall with 7 screws and reinstall the OEM in less than 15 minutes.

I am back to noodling my own solution. Very nice. The latch is bad ass. Why not take the plywood all the way out to the perimeter?

Because I raised the level of the floor by an inch at the back it’s at an angle. I wanted to make it full width but trimming the plywood thickness at an angle plus contouring the sides was way beyond my skills. I’m actually noodling how to add a subwoofer in the left cubby space which will fill the space flush.

I don’t mind the small channel on the right as it will keep small items from rolling I throw in there but don’t want in the obnoxious 3rd row cubbies.

A cargo mat makes a good template
