I think it's a mistake to just call every dash camera "generic" and say they're so because they utilize a "Sony STARVIS 2" image sensor.
Sony manufactures numerous image sensors under the STARVIS 2 technology designation, and dash-camera manufacturers can implement the same sensor with substantially different results.
There are two separate considerations:
1. Which Sony STARVIS 2 sensor is installed? Different sensors have different resolutions, pixel sizes, light sensitivities, readout capabilities, and operating modes.
2. How much of that sensor's capability does the dash-camera manufacturer actually utilize? That depends on the image processor, firmware, recording configuration, thermal limitations, and other components.
Simply advertising STARVIS 2 tells us practically nothing about the camera's actual recording performance, and only that they picked a very good and current image sensor. Actually compare features and specifications or don't, but don't believe they're generic or perform identically because they use "STARVIS 2" image sensors.
