The included bolt threads are strong enough if you're worried. As I mentioned in a previous post, I had to hold one of the rear nuts installing the rears because it caused it to spin with the bolt. Just realize that the heads of the included bolts are flat and fit somewhat flush with the flaps. I think this is a good look plus would prevent tire rub on the bolt head for those with larger tires worried about that.My kits came with all the intended hardware, but I was hesitant to use the machine thread 1.25” bolts they provided. The OEM Toyota fender bolts are a coarse thread, so I just went to Home Depot and got matching 1/4” 1.25 black lag bolts. These matched the Toyota thread perfect, but not the highest quality bolt finish.

I agree the machine thread bolts look significantly better. Better clearance for sure. When you use them, you’re doubling the thread count, so you’re effectively tapping the nut insert. If you want to remove them and use the factory bolt again, you’d have to get a replacement insert. I guess that’s easy enough, maybe I’ll switch back to them. The included bolt threads are strong enough if you're worried. I finally got around to installing the ARK Mud Flaps. So far, I really like them and I think they are going to have the perfect coverage. I was lucky and able to snag a set that are a size between the Micro and Mid and think they will be great. Reach out to Jason over at ARK and he will help you out!
Thanks! I think so. I’ll chat with them tomorrow (Monday) and will let you know! They look good. Is that a set that they haven't advertised yet?
I just wanted to follow up and add that I eventually gave in and drilled out the bottom two holes for the rear ARK flaps. I found that the tires would allow much more dirt to kick up behind the flaps since they were closer to the tire. Securing them with the bottom two holes holds the flap as far back as possible which catches more debris kicked up by the tires. I did not drill out or use the the 3rd upper hole of the splash guards. One, it's doesn't appear to make a difference after the bottom two holes secured the flap. And two, it doesn't sit flush with the wheel well, so not sure how good of a bite the included push clips would have to begin with.I installed the rears without drilling. There's three holes, two of which would be there if you were swapping out the OEM guards. The third requires you to drill a hole. I didn't drill anything for the rears and currently driving them just fine for on road use. They're held in place with just push clips anyway. The front guards don't require any drilling at all.
Edit: Here's the rear installed without drilling and utilizing the 3 holes for the push clips.![]()
I found the drill locations easy when I installed mine. Far easier than doing the OEM Toyota drill locations that required buying some mini bits and a 90 degree drill adapter.I just wanted to follow up and add that I eventually gave in and drilled out the bottom two holes for the rear ARK flaps. Are these the full size? These have been sitting for a few weeks in the garage, and since Socal weather wasn’t too shabby today, i decided to install them. The mud flap install seriously took longer than the running boards.. Lol.
If i had to do it again, i’d probably just get the Ark Mini, but overall, im happy with how it turned out.
Install time for everything was around 2.5 hours by myself.. i was taking my time and had a couple beers as well.
