Android Auto volume change

When playing audio from another app other than YouTube Music, I try and turn up the volume and then the music starts. I have to hit pause and then hit play again on the other app. And, if I need to adjust the volume the process starts over again. I've tried to force stop YouTube Music and that doesn't work. Super frustrating.
I was curious if anyone else has experienced the same issue and is there is a reasonable solution that you've found?

I use android auto and Pandora for my music. Have not had any problems. I have not tried using YouTube music so have no experience with your problem.

Seems like YouTube does not allow the licensing to do that, my fixed was connecting the Bluetooth only with media, not using Android app to connect, the first day i noticed youtube music was there and there dissapeared

Android auto is the worst. Using it with the new toyota is *almost* enough to drive me to iphone. Apple carplay works so much better and has more flexibility. Plus, it allows for a side column on the left which directly accesses the toyota screen (which wow, is so clunky, side note).

Back to your question: I'll be on a non-spotify app, such as MLB, turn the volume up, and it goes back to spotify.

Just leased myself a 4Runner and encountering this exact issue. When I start working I'll be able to pay for Spotify and hopefully will not have to deal with the music issue. But it still sucks cause I like to listen to some people that go live on YouTube

I have not seen this except one time while doing something quite uncommon.

I mostly use a few different audiobook and podcast players. An open source audiobook player called Voice that you have to get from F-Droid or github, AntennaPod, and pandora & spotify. For either Voice or AntennaPod I don't remember which, I had to google up some extra developer mode settings to enable them to appear in Android Auto.

The volume knob and the steering wheel both generally work as expected wirth all of those. Even the left & right on the right-hand side of the steering wheel works to skip 30 seconds forward and back.

But one time I was using some kind of bridge/hack app to try to play a local video file on the console screen. It didn't work, but it did let me play the video on the phone and the sound came out the car. While doing that, if I touched the volume knob at all it switched the sound to pandora or some other normal android auto app.

I have youtube premium but basically never use yt music, so I don't know if it does something extra bad but I'll try it. Maybe it's just because I never use it, or maybe there is some setting within the app that can be flipped. I do have the app installed on my phonebut I think I might have never even selected it to appear in android auto.
