5 Sets of 2 Beeps

Okay. Here is a new one.

Only on the passenger door and mostly when opening the door, the 4Runner does 5 sets of two beeps. I also hear clicking in the rear door.

it just started and can it figure out what is going on. A few times it occurs when closing the door.

did at anytime you open the rear doors ???

its a safety feature to remind you either you put something in the rear seats (kid, dog, person)

if you open the rear doors and close it, toyota assumes someone got into the back seat and to remind you someone is back there. its a crude system vs the front seat weight sensors

likely this...it can be disabled so rear door access reminder doesn't bark at you

I will play with that setting. It just started happening so it is a bit odd since nothing was changed. But if turning it on and off could trigger a fix that would be good.

It happens mostly on the front passenger door. About 90 percent of the time. It happens even if the rear doors are not opened first. It has occurred when trying to open the hatch and also locking the vehicle and opening.

At least there is a starting point.

I tried changing the rear seat detection settings. And no change. The beeping is pretty consistent with the front passenger door. It does happen with the driver door and the hatch once in a while. When it does happen at the hatch, it is when I try to unlock with my fingers, it beeps 10 times and then I have to touch the sensor again to open. Once in a while it will happen when I set the alarm or turn it off. I can’t recall if it has happened on the rear driver door. I will try to get it into the shop in the next few weeks, and I have them looking into it from their side

The one thing I can show the dealership for sure is the beating on the passenger door. This one is probably about 90% of the time.

If anyone else has had these challenges, it would be great to hear from you or if anyone has any other ideas for a remedy, it would be great to give them a try

If it's happening almost every time but not every time, I'd try to figure out what's different about the times it doesn't happen. Start with a repeatable baseline and change one thing at a time.

For example: vehicle in READY, shift to Park, parking brake on, take the key with you, get out and close the driver's door, walk around, open/close the front passenger door. Does it beep? Then repeat with the parking brake off. Then try leaving the key inside instead of taking it with you. Keep everything else the same each time.

If none of those reproduce it, start adding other variables. Open and close a rear door before the drive and repeat the same sequence. Try it without ever opening a rear door. Also verify in the vehicle settings that Rear Seat Reminder in the MID is actually Off rather than going from memory.

Since you said it happens almost every time, the occasions when it doesn't happen may be more useful than the ones when it does. There has to be some difference in vehicle state or sequence that's triggering it. I'd also pay attention to that clicking you're hearing from the rear door and see whether the locks are actually changing state when it happens.

Every day I get reminded why I loved my 88 4Runner. None of these stupid reminders. Crack the sunroof to let a bit of heat escape while shopping and it beeps to tell you. Doesn't matter that I just did it a couple seconds ago. Toyota wants me to be sure I knew I did it. I'm wondering how much longer (or maybe it already does) before Toyota sends warnings to your phone to let you know when someone walked by your car.

I had some weird things happen when I left my phone in the car and attempted to lock it by touching the drivers side handle. I have it set so the mirrors retract when locking. The car would start the process of locking, the mirrors retracting and suddenly it would beep and the mirrors would go back to the unlocked position. Turns out - I believe - that because my phone had the digital key activated and I left it in the car, it reacted as if I left the actual key fob in the car and refused to lock because of it.

Probably not your problem but thought I would mention it just in case. Good luck.
