Awesome build! Looks clean. Did you ever get a switch panel for all the lighting? Also where did you run the wires to all the lights on the roof rack? How is it without the AVS? Was looking to getting a proper lift but wasnt sure about replacing the entire AVS to accomplish that. I apologize in advance, first time 4runner owner and first time modding. Thank you

Switch panel for the lighting - not yet. I am a bit old school and prefer the OEM button placement for my auxiliary lighting. I may concede and add a Diode Dynamics panel if/when I opt to add some lights to the roof rack front. I am running a Blue Seas fuse/switch panel, tucked away nicely under the side cover on the driver side (space in the upper fender area of the engine bay). Controls the lights and the air compressor.

For the rear lights, they are Diode Dynamics, and I opted or a wiring kit. Ran them to fuse panel and have an OEM switch control. I was able to run the wiring neatly through the rear passenger taillight and get it fed into the cargo area. From there, ran it along the wheel well and to the door opening panels along the floor. Everything can be pried open with the proper tools and you can run the wires with little issue. I did find a part (from I believe a CB mounting bracket) that I used to help position those rear lights under the crossbar.

As for the suspension - the AVS thing has been my research project. I've looked into the Land Cruiser and Tundra forums. Adding the spacer lift with the AVS really didn't net me as much as it does on the other models (I am running a 34" tire and have some rubbing, even post-crash plate delete). I am going to with a full Kings set to get me about another 1/2-1" in the front. I ran those on my 5th gen and really prefer the ride (on and off-road).

Hope this helps!

I have the same build, wind chill pearl limited gas. Just picked it up 3 days ago.

Question, when you took off the air dam, did you replace it with anything to cover the holes? Or fill in the gap?

Great build by the way, looks fantastic

Hey @Keroppi and anyone else looking for an update - I did end up adding those plus a few other things. Here's the latest and what's next/left to do:

Installed:
  • Diode Dynamics C2 standard chase lights (flood) - I modified the bracket slightly to allow me to mount these under the roof rack cross bar. On my 5th gen, I had these sitting above and never loved the look. Additionally, with this install, I needed to factor in the spoiler and getting enough clearance to mount and avoid contact. I ran the wiring in through the driver rear taillight and under the floor trim all the way to the dash switch controls.
  • Diode Dynamics SS3 Pro ditch lights
  • Diode Dynamics SS6 fog lights (amber) - I should have done this when I did the Pro grille swap - if you are doing the grille swap - add the fog lights at the same time!
  • Westcott low pro ditch light brackets - easy install. Set up is a little tight with light placement near the wipers, but not enough to touch or be an issue.
  • Westcott billet tow hooks - finish looks clean paired with the silver lower bumper valence and RCI skid plate in raw.
  • ARB Brushless Single Compressor - perfect fit under the hood. Sufficient for airing up when needed and eventually running a locker (probably next year).
  • Rough Country paint matched fender flares - I had initially looked at the NYTOP option, but getting the paint matched was going to be an additional $1k. This was clearly the better option. Added ceramic coating and installed pretty quickly.
  • (not pictured) Ark crash bracket delete - thanks to those who did this already - paint matched the factory bolts and cut back on some of the rub from the 285/70/18s.
Next up:
  • King Suspension 2.5 lift kit with reservoirs, etc. That is happening soon - really not enjoying the Peak spacers with the stock Limited suspension paired with my current wheel/tire setup. Unfortunately, on the Limited, the spacer lift options don't provide as much clearance as the other 4Runner models. Bumping up the lift to give me a little more clearance for off-road trail access.

What is the bracket you used for the ARB compressor? @FlaRunner904 is looking for a solution.

Sorry for the delay (work trip, didn't bring this laptop) - I don't go through car washes with the roof rack (or a tire swing if you add one). Maybe a touchless that is legit no touch. There is too much that could get hung up on the rack. I have an old school car wash place near my house, so I swing by there and do this myself.

Related story, on my 5th gen, I took my 4Runner (roof rack but pre-spare tire swing out) with a bike rack on the back to a Toyota dealer in Mesa for an oil change. They took the initiative to run my car through the car wash. I get it back after and the bike rack was twisted and broke. The service department told me it wasn't them and it was like this (it wasn't). There was a blue foam stringy thing from the car wash on my bike rack. Service guy grabs a random back-room service guy and goes "what is this?" and he replies "oh, that's from our car wash". They offered me free service, but I got them to replace my bike rack.

I had to remove my air dam because my new wheel/tire setup rubbed on the air dam. A few of the mounting points were used for my RCI front skid plate. Not all, but that certainly filled the gaps.

Thank you for the hard earned life lessons good sir! Will definitely be keeping this in mind when I change out my roof rack !

Are the ss6 pro fogs a crazy upgrade over the factory fogs? I’m guessing yes but need help talking myself into upgrading. I did a set of two rough country slims to see if I could run a white and yellow setup (white in the fog switch, yellow on aux 2) but the lighting output just isn’t great. Maybe as good as the factory setup but with the dual color option I guess. I could have just gone Alpharex if that’s all I wanted though. Anyway, love the build!

I like them for the added yellow light to pair with my Diode Dynamic ditch & chase lights. Noticeably brighter compared to the stocks? If you're looking to supplement for off-road lighting, perhaps a dedicated off-road light bar install would work as well.

Honestly, the craziest part is the intricate assembly of the front bumper (as compared to the 5th gen) - night and day. Whatever changes you want to make to the front, do it all in one sitting - because it's a simple but time-consuming process.

Just purchased your same rig, Im in the same boat as you need the third row. Im wondering what to do with AVS, since im sure if I replace the shocks I will have a check engine light on? Did you just do a spacer kit and leave everything else factory? I guess I'm looking for guidance on leveling a Limited with AVS.

Hey @Burnzbro118 - sorry for the delay on this. The AVS thing shouldn't be a big issue, but apparently not a lot of build shops have done a lot of builds with Limited/Platinum 4Runners.

But, good news! The GX550 runs the same platform and the AVS. So (credit to Toytec), it's really a non-issue on the build with AVS. Spoke to Austen there about my build - I asked specifically about any sensors or dash lights or issues as result of the AVS being detached. Per Toytec, no issues - it's a simple unplug that doesn't trigger alerts or sensor issues as a result. I'm going to go through them with my parts order and may just make the trip up to Denver for the install, but may just stick to a local shop that has done installs on Toyotas/Lexus SUVs.

Best bet would be to look for a shop that has done some Lexus GX550 builds (even some Tundras run the AVS).

I'm planning to have my setup done by March. Spacers are horrible compared to the Kings I ran on my prior 5th gen.

Thanks for confirming that pulling the AVS shocks out won't throw error codes on the dash

Based in Phoenix, after 8 years and countless miles offroad and on, I parted ways with my '16 (probably overbuilt) 5th gen SR5 Premium for a '25 4Runner Limited in late May. Like the previous iteration, I need the 3rd row option (4 kids) as a foundation for my builds. Here's a quick summary of what's been done and what's next for this one:
  • Debadged and ceramic coating from Detail PHX
  • Beat-Sonic amplifier
  • Redline Tuning hood struts
  • Screen ProTech matte finish display protection
  • Lasfit floor liners
  • Peak Performance Trail kit suspension lift - Given all of the other models getting 34-35" tires with limited/no rub, I figured I could get a 33.5-34" tire option with this lift. With the Active Variable Suspension in the Limited/Platinum, I knew this option would work but wasn't sure how well. I didn't get a significant increase in lift (closer to 1" in the front and not 2") after install. More on that later.
  • Method MR316 18 x 9 wheels (+18 offset) wrapped in Falken Wildpeak AT4 285/70R18 load C tires - 33.5" tire height installed as seen below.
IMG_7294.jpg

  • Prinsu Pro Roof Rack - A lot of options, but I went with what I know. I ran a Prinsu Roof Rack on my 5th gen and really never had an issue with it. Went for the Pro model for the added support with the static/dynamic weight support. I also painted the under side plates in a grey/silver.
IMG_7372 roof rack pic.webp

  • RCI aluminum front skid plate (really tucked in as compared to the 5th gen)
  • RCI rock sliders - Blind bolts, paired with inset bolt options from RCI. They provided 2 inset bolts (ideally they should offer more for the unthreaded options) but those were perfect for the driver side. I did incorporate blind bolts to reinforce the options that RCI provided (4 on the passenger/5 in the driver). I can post where I positioned those bolts.
IMG_7537 side profile shot.jpg

  • TRD Pro Heritage grille swap - Beautiful match with the existing silver accents already on the Limited (lower front and rear bumper, Toyota logo on back).
IMG_7563 grille swap.webp

What's Next?
  • NYTOP Fender flares in matte black - reducing the poke of the current configuration of wheels/tires (a couple weeks out on delivery).
  • Upgrading the suspension to a 3" lift option. AVS be damned. Keeping the stock setup with spacers isn't my long-term plan, so I'm working with my local shop to upgrade from here.
  • Full size spare - I know the current spec is to fit a 33" max tire underneath. As I started to explore the undercarriage and how much real estate is there to work with, an idea crossed my mind:
    • If I push out the trailer plug port (about 1/2" forward, straightening it), and hammer outward the two tire brackets (about 1/2") I should be able to get me the 33.5" space to support my 285/70R18 spare underneath.
  • Conversely, if I don't pursue the adjustments to force a spare underneath, I will most likely opt for the Wescott spare tire carrier. I mountain bike, so I need something with enough strength to support my rack(s) and bike(s). Wescott's option allows for the tire to sit to the passenger side and will limit relocation needs for the 2 rear cameras (backup and digital tow cameras). Alternatively, I may see what rear bumper options come out that include a tire carrier and limit the camera relocation requirements too.
  • Onboard air compressor and rear locking diff.
  • A-pillar lighting
  • Possible intake upgrade
  • Potential front bumper options/winch - seeing what options become available.
Ready to get this thing dirty.

Awesome build! Do you know your total overall height now with this wheels setup?
