My Journey For A 2nd Platinum

so here we are again for another journey for our 2nd 4Runner Platinum. added a few extra options since this will be the wife's first 4Runner and non truck since 2012 with her 2012 Tacoma Dcab V6. also this will be her first non blue vehicle since then also.

here is the initial paperwork from the dealer, after i was allowed to select the options directly on the dealerdaily screen myself.

now for the longer wait for allocation reserve request to be validated by the regional office, then the wait for a exact configuration to be built and allocated to my dealer again. last 2 vehicles have taken 10 months to allocate so we are not in a hurry as usual.

paperwork signed shows i will be getting invoice for the vehicle, dealer fees and sales tax, but its a minor thing in the grand scheme of things when you are given invoice pricing before you even talk trade in or financing.

pricing will be more than mine since the DPH went up $100 since my 2025 4R and the base invoice price also went up some. my 25 4R was invoice at $63,114 but i am guessing this 26 will be closer to $64k with the 2 added PIO of front/rear recovery hooks and $1595 DPH (was $1495) and i think $500 base increase in cost. the MSRP is $69k from what i spec'd out at the toyota website with the exact FIO and PIO options i wanted.

anyway here is the initial paperwork with personal info redacted.

1st is the paperwork showing invoice pricing
rest are the screen shots from dealerdaily and what options are selected as P1 (primary color) P2 & P3 (secondary and tertiary color choices) P2 & P3 makes it easier to have your allocation reserve request filled faster but you end up settling on a color that isnt your first choice. if you dont select P2 or P3, then they will only pick that color and you wait until it becomes available on the build line.

i will add more posts and screen shots or scans as they become available.

if you want to see my original post with way more info on the whole process you can go here. just remember, 90-99% of dealers will not do this for you. i have the luxury of buying roughly 20+ vehicles from them for either myself, wife, daughter, son in the last 40 yrs from them.

and just so you know, my dealer will do invoice pricing if you do an allocation reserve request, otherwise its msrp for vehicle on the ground on in transit.

well after bouncing around a little (the dealer got a allocation reserve fulfillment but it was missing the auto boards, they were going to take it and find a swap within the region for one with auto boards)

got the call last night they found the exact config we decided on up in the first post with the auto boards and rear hatch led lights.

should be rolling off the assembly line this week

preliminary stats right now, i will be getting the actual vin once its built.

timeline should be loaded to a RORO on 3-aug and be at the dealer by mid/late sept

ignore msrp price of 69k, i will be getting invoice so it should be around 63.5 ~ 64k ish

edit : looks like they changed the delivery date to 9-28 then again to 9-19

well the wife has decided she wants to replace the oem wheels.

think i finally found them with her requirements of being minimalistic color and red. the straight on look at them barely shows any red color which was the biggest selling point for her.

dont mind the model and color not matching what we ordered, its the best visualizer i could find for a platinum underground.

personally for me, i could care less about wheels, i am more about cheap and practicality of what i already have. its her money and car payment so she can do what she wants.

and there is no way it can be at the dealer by 8-19, it takes roughly 15-16 days transit time from japan to portland port via RORO, then roughly 2-3 weeks PIO processing, then 10-14 days railroad transit, then 1-3 weeks semi tranport (depends on how long it takes to load a semi hauler full of deliveries)

those times are based on previous deliveries for me to my dealer

so the 9-18 delivery to dealer is a more accurate date for dealer arrival.

My experience was similar, but not so involved, on my end anyway. I finally settled on options/trim/color and was told it would probably be a long wait, but a week later the dealer called said we found it. It was early in production and they were able to remove some PIOs and get me the cargo cover. I never knew what ship it was on or where it was precisely in the pipeline except for the major events. Basically, despite not being able to custom order directly to production, if your patient and have a dealer willing to wait and work with you, everyone should be able to get 99%+ of what they want. Glad this is all worked out for you.

this time around the sales manager (1-5, i know 3 of them fairly well) actually let me come around and select the options directly on the screen that i wanted (since i know all the option codes)

you can "order" a toyota the way you want it, but it not really an order, more like a request of stuff you want on a vehicle. the only things you really need to worry about is what factory options you want. those are hard choices that CANNOT be changed once the vehicle is built. once that is finalized, all PIO can be added/removed before the vehicle arrives at a port (portland, newark, long beach for toyota usa dealer, not sure how GST/SET works)

edit : forgot to add, if you can get a pipeline status after it just leaves japan, the screen can tell you which ship your vehicle is loaded on, again its really dependent on your dealer if they want to give you that info or not or even give you a pipeline status printout or even let you see it.

PIO you have to make sure you get that squared away before hand, once it arrives at a port, then the PIO options pretty much get locked down and they are added to a vehicle within 1-3 weeks (depending on what and how much is added) once it leaves a port, then it no longer can be modified since the window sticker is generated and locks the vehicle for mods from toyota (DIO options can be added but that is between you and dealer). after PIO processing, it is then loaded to a railcar and sent to a regional port (except for portland and surrounding dealers, they get a transport truck)

railcar can take anywhere from 1-2 weeks depending on the distance to the regional port/railhead.

my regional port is kansas city but they dont stop off there, but is sent to dayton's bluff, mn for a regional railhead for my dealer. then from there depending on how many cars are holding for that locale/dealer (toyota logistics transport company will fill a vehicle hauler before transport) and this can take between 1-2 weeks (can be shorter or longer) before its moved to a dealer. typical transit time is usually 1-2 days by semi hauler (mine takes 1 day, actually less since its about 8 hr drive)

dealer DPI/DPS (delivery pre inspection/service) is done the next day or the day before a customer does a scheduled pickup. i see a lot of dealer missing steps on this (tires over filled from transport psi aka 50psi, seats not initialized properly, navigation compass not calibrated correctly, among other less know things)

i have gone thru this process too many times to count but the process is generall the same, only the actual details have changed on how it is done. the screens have changed over the last 2-3 decades that i have been buying toyota's. they look a lot prettier than the old screens of being more functional, they still get the job done, but you use to get more info at a glance then trying to jump between more screens now.

My dealer was more than helpful. I got exactly what I wanted, color, trim, options, etc. and they were able to make modifications to the allocation once they captured it..
