Hey all,

First post here because I'm going to pick up my new Ice Cap SR5 tomorrow. I have new tires hopefully already going to be on there (275/70/17) but I'm hoping to see some before and after pics with running boards removed.

Thanks in advance!

I have discovered this...

My SR5 came with steps, and I've been using them to climb in....
now removed, don't need them or miss them, because I can get 5 inches
closer now and...don't need a step ...I climb in same as my 99 4runner* and 2013 Tacoma

so, for me
it's kinda like if you have steps you need steps... to get around the step itself

*My '99 Limited back in 1998 came with steps and 2nd time in the woods I
geetered them on a log... so off they went and I totally forgot about them
until my 2025 arrived...and I tried to keep them but...nahh they nice and all but
sort of annoying to me.

I totally agree and found that when I removed them from my 3rd gen Tacoma!

If anyone has automatic running boards off a platinum or limited I will buy them off you. PM me.

ProTip:

If you have side steps, and worry about removal...
Tom here shows you 'the move' to easily get in without them...

I’m thinking about ditching the running boards. My wife and I are both tall, so we tend to get hit in the shins on the way in and the calves on the way out. I’ve tried to embrace using them but haven’t gotten there yet.

I hate the OEM running boards. I'm 6'3" and don't need them to get in or out and have never had them in my previous vehicles, so I always step over them by habit. But they collect mud and dirt like crazy, so when it's dirty I get mud on the back of my pants. That's admittedly a "me" problem, but I've never had that issue with the running boards on 5th Gens I've rented.

I'd take them off, but I load kayaks onto my roof several times a week and find them very handy for that. Currently searching for rock sliders that will work as a step for roof loading while still staying much lower profile than the OEM steps. Open to suggestions.

Yeah same, I'm 6 ft, my wife is not short either and never bothered me in my Tacoma which was leveled with 32s on it. I think they gotta go, lol. Worst case I can always put em back on!

Yeah , I could see keeping them if I luaded things in the roof but I only have my bikes which will be on the hitch mounted rack now. Not quite as tall as you but at 6ft I never needed them for my Tacoma either. I maybe wouldn't mind something super low profile like you mentioned either.

Eventually I want to add rock rails - probably the OEM Trailhunter rock rails, unless I see something else I like before I get to this
I like the TH rails too! Very minimal and low profile.i think they'd look decent

I had planned on removing the running boards from my ORP asap since I don't need them, but I actually enjoy how much they keep gravel from kicking up all over the side of the truck. I drive on forest roads almost daily, so this was a nice and unexpected benefit of the boards.

Also makes it a lot easier to wash and clean the top of the truck, windshield, etc. I think I'm going to keep them on over the winter and see how they do with snow before I decide if I want to remove them or not.
