Price and what trim to go with?

Hello all,

Currently in a ‘19 Colorado ZR2 and looking at a 4Runner. Have been wanting one for quite some time now.

I’ve been looking at SR5, OR, and ORP (all non-hybrids). SR5 seems to be pretty standard. OR seems to be catching my eye more, and in that case would it be worth spending a bit more for an ORP? Looking for this vehicle to last me awhile for camping, road trips, and sweet looking vehicle and so I can see myself spending a bit more for the long run enjoyment.

What would you recommend and how much did you get yours from dealership out of curiosity?

It’s personal preference and maybe what you’re coming from plays a role.
I went with the TRD Off Road (Not premium).
for me it seemed to be the sweet spot between price, capability and create comforts.
I was coming from a 2013 built up Jeep Wrangler Sport. Manual transmission and everything else. The only thing automatic was the turn signals cancelled themselves after a turn. Ha.
So for me the TRD Off Road was a huge leap forward in comfort and tech.

start with a ORP and compare vs the OR and SR5.

only go with an SR5 if you intend to put 10-15k of off road parts into it (no point in paying to remove features) or really budget conscience

the ORP is the sweet spot for the 4R trims.

limited/platinum is more geared for pavement princess life and the TRD Pro/Trailhunter are more for those that want to off road more than usual and want a turn key solution

trd sport is an oddball trim not quite limited but not quite ORP

OR is for those cost averse and are willing to give up some creature comforts that the ORP has.

the ORP is for those that are pushing older age and want some comforts while doing some mild off roading.

HV vs GAS, only advantage really of the HV is more power mostly for trailering/pulling a load.

the HV is not there for mpg, technically all the BoF HV vehicles for toyota are geared for power not mpg

the mpg gain on the 6G vs thr 5G is mostly due to smaller engine (2.4L vs 4.0L and 8 spd trans vs 5 spd trans)

I agree. Currently, what would be a good OTD price/discount on 2026 4R ORP ICE with no additional options/dealer add-on's? Obviously the TTL varies between State to State...but there must be some ball park figure?

For mods I am only looking at wheels and tires. As I would want to get into camping I can see myself getting a rooftop tent, otherwise I won’t be changing the suspension because I don’t envision myself needing to do that with the trails I would be using it on.

Between the ORP vs OR, it really seems that the ORP has the wants like the upgraded seats, bigger screen, and moonroof (I’ve always wanted one of those). Whereas the OR has the needs. SR5 just seems too bare and I wouldn’t be putting enough upgrades into it to utilize that trims bang for buck. Guess it will come down to if there is a good enough deal for the premium to maybe pull the trigger.

Just curious, you think the stock suspension on a SR5 and Sport would be sufficient for super light off road?

the only suspension you have to stay away from is the limited and platinum since they come with avs which is harder to aftermarket a good upgrade suspension wise (less choices vs all the other trims)

if you are looking at level 1-2 trails any model should work, 3-4 you can get by with tire and small tweaks and anything above 5 you start getting into better suspensions requirements

in general


otherwise it will come down to what creature comforts you are willing to give up vs pricing you can afford.

as you can see the pricing is lopsided, cheap and no features 42k and then you jump up to 48k thru 56k with slight bumps in features. so you have a fairly tight price cutoffs on what you basically get for each step up.

2025 2026 4runner 6th gen Price and what trim to go with? 1776093122086-bk

I'd go with SR5 because in reality, it does everything every other 4runner will do w/o added fluff and $$$$. If you are gonna wheel hard beyond SR5 capabilities you already know what you want. SR5 can do 99% any other 4runner will be seen doin.

I base this comment on having another 4runner with all the AWD and locker options, and a Tacoma TRD with all that too (except AWD) and I am on bony logging roads all the time with all three my buggies and my SR5 got no issues in my opinion and I saved a chunk of loot on it vs pricier trims.

I see what you are saying. In reality, this 4Runner will be my daily and be on the pavement far more than not. So some of the interior add-ons are enticing to me to make it feel more comfortable.
