I fitted a "Battery Tender" cable to the battery and plug it in if its going to site for more than two days. I have had good luck with that approach and it seems to extend the life of my battery based on other vehicles. Battery Tender used to be Made in USA but sadly not now.
My cable end pops up on the passenger side hood and is held just out of sight until I plug it in. No need to raise the hood to do so. I do like the Toyota integration, assuming the small plug is for battery charging and not the block heater
only time i use a trickle charger is when the battery gets too cold during jan-feb (those -20F temps are brutal). i dont have a heated or insulated garage so it gets pretty cold in there.
if i go on a trip for more than 3 days, i usually just disconnect the battery than put a trickle charger on, but that was with my 2014.
from what i can tell on the 2025, pulling the battery connections, reset some systems/components now that they have to be re-initialized. thats a pita vs the 5th gen.
