Pretty hilarious that you have to be close enough for the key to register for the hatch to close and lock, but then immediately GTFO of there before the hatch hits you in the head 😂 Some of this technology is ridiculous.
I THINK this is the trick to close and lock walk away function. You need to wait a second for the first beep and THEN walk away (quickly:>). At least this is what worked for me last night when I decided to give it a try again. First time, I walked away TOO quickly. Must wait for that first beep (I think).

I also have issues where I can't get the back hatch to open at ALL sometimes. Like I'm inside the car, pressing the button, nothing. I go outside, nothing, key fob in hand. Had to manually open and close it, which felt terrible.

Yeah I had a big time lemon Mercedes that had the same kick issue, erratic problem where I looked like a one-legged Flamingo doing The Jig every time I tried to open the hatch with my hands full!

This is for the birds no pun intended.

Mine works and then it doesn't, then it will open with a kick and it will close with a kick; sometimes it closes while holding the button when standing right in front of it and other times it doesn't.
I cannot figure out a commonality to get it consistent. I have even checked the console for the hatch settings.

By the time I figure it out I'll be ready to trade it in!
