yeah i am baffled why the fitcam is using such an old camera in this day and age. i mean the starvis 2 was first used in a dashcam in 2022 when viofo started using them in the a139 pro

even blackvue finally started using the starvis 2 in late 2025

and the new starvis 3 was announced in march of 2026

Key Details About STARVIS 3 (IMX908):
  • Release Timing: Announced March 17, 2026; samples shipping March/April 2026.
  • Key Technology: Uses LOFIC ( Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor ) to significantly improve dynamic range, reducing overexposure in bright, high-contrast scenes (like bright sunlight on a license plate).
  • Application: Primarily for security cameras, advanced dash cams, and surveillance.
  • Resolution: 1/2.8 type 8.4-megapixel CMOS sensor.
  • Performance: Offers enhanced Near-Infrared (NIR) response, crucial for high-quality nighttime surveillanc

Seems Fitcamx is coming out with updated cams with the new Sony Starvis 2 sensor providing greatly improved image quality over the old cams. I myself will wait for the newer Starvi 2 cams. I have written to Fitcamx to see whjen the new cams will be out. Will update this if I get any more information.
I currently have a Wolfbox G900 Pro (two channel not the tri-pro), but wouldn't hesitate to switch to the Fitcamx if/when they upgrade cameras. I almost ordered the Fitcamx about a month ago, but figured as soon as I did they would announce camera updates. I'll be keeping an eye out!

Reading some great things about the fitcamx with most saying it’s like it was specifically for the 4Runner. I will probably go this route when my imaginary TRD Pro should ever arrive.

Damn, I ended up returning my Fitcamx for a Vantrue cam with the Starvis 2 sensor. I would've preferred the OEM fit of the Fitcamx but the camera quality with the Starvis 2 is undeniably better.
Agree 100% on the Starvis 2

Our Fitcamx just shipped. Video quality is better than the OEM camera as is its integration into the vehicle just looks cleaner. Video only needs to be good enough to send in to Wham Bam Dash am if we catch something worthy.
