Most of us lament the end of the old V6, but there may still be hope that a V6 is on the way. I'm talking about the twin turbo V6 in the Lexus GX with 349 hp, 479 lb-ft torque and 9,063-lb towing capacity.

The Lexus has that engine on the same platform as the 4Runner, and is made in the SAME PLANT as the 4Runner, so is it just a matter of time before they give this engine as an option?

If so, I just might wait.
you'll be waiting forever. GL with that...

Yes, it's the same platform, so it's technically possible for Toyota to do, but....
* 6G 4Runner has an available 326 hp, 465 lb-ft (which is only 23 hp, 14 lb-ft from the V6TT numbers); no one who has actually driven both laments the end of the old V6 at 270 hp, 278 lb-ft.
* The V6 turbo in the big dogs is having a lot of trouble/defects/recalls right now. Is that really the engine you want?
* As others have said, Toyota will want distinction between levels/price ranges of its vehicles. MAYBE the Land Cruiser will get this engine somewhere down the line, but not the 4Runner.

If you're that interested in just the engine or the towing capacity, buy a GX/LX/Tundra.
