Most of us lament the end of the old V6, but there may still be hope that a V6 is on the way. I'm talking about the twin turbo V6 in the Lexus GX with 349 hp, 479 lb-ft torque and 9,063-lb towing capacity.

The Lexus has that engine on the same platform as the 4Runner, and is made in the SAME PLANT as the 4Runner, so is it just a matter of time before they give this engine as an option?

If so, I just might wait.

Not gonna happen. If we consider the logic here: it would make more sense in the pricier LC250. But, that would make the LC250 too similar to the GX. They need to keep the powertrain differentiation there between the LC and GX in markets where Lexus and Toyota coexist.

For Toyota, we'll continue to only see the V6 in the full-size TNGA-F vehicles. Not that we should want it anyway, that thing is absolutely plagued with design and production issues.

Sitting here wishing for the TTV6 4Runner will be as productive as waiting for the return of the V8 4Runner in prior generations. After all, the V8 was in the prior generation GX, which was the same platform as the 4Runner, which follows the same wishful thinking logic.

toyota has historically gimped the toyota models with a smaller engine. they expect you to move up to a lexus if you want more engine/power

it started with the v8 toyota 4runner. it competed directly with the old gx470 and people would buy the 4runner for the same v8 for about 10-15k less.

i think 2004 or was it 2006 was the last year a vehicle outside the tundra/sequoia/land cruiser 200/300 series had a v8 until they got rid of the v8 in the 2nd gen tundra, discontinued the toyota branded LC 200/300 series (now the LX series using a 310 series body) and the sequoia 2nd gen

Why not buy a crate motor and swap it in yourself?

Toyota has lots of crate motors available due to the Tundra/GX recall campaign.

Nope. Don't care about a V6.You will wait forever, they will never put the turbo v6 in the 4 Runner! Why would you want them to...that engine has issues.

It honestly doesn't need it. Even in the non hybrid I don't feel like it's short on power. It pulls fine to me, and I'm a lifelong sportscar driver.

I am very happy with the 2.4L turbo. Very impressive engine, and I don't even have the hybrid. I have met a few of the haters out there and most of them are usually the stick the head in the sand type of people.

V6T = lexus upsell

Not going to happen. Outside the noise, I think the 4-banger does well in the vehicle.
