Just talked to the dealership and they gave me the updated part numbers for left and right. PT989-35240-AG is rear left side and PT974-89251-AA is rear right side.

One of those parts says Taco in the description, we know the mounting points are different so it wouldn't fit.

If someone had access to the Toyota installation sheets for these parts numbers it would answer a lot of questions we have.

I believe the 4runner has one rear tow hook mounting point on the passenger side. The part # i posted replacesthe black factory rear recovery hook.

The 2nd part # that someone else provided looks like its for the Tacoma, which has both left and the right rear tow hooks.

I might be wrong but that's my observation

As far as we know, there is only the right side PT974-89251-03 for the 4Runner. I don't know why @Rock Doc keeps plugging these other ones. I am interested to find out what they are.

Got it. I placed an order for the right one but thought there was a left one also from reading the thread. Guess there is only one then.

Functionally, why would someone use the bigger loop in the back?
I would think the small front loop is big enough for a soft shackle or d-ring shackle.
for me its more of the looks than function.

You can check your 4Runner, on the left side of the frame near the exhaust. There are no holes for a left side recovery point like the right side is mounted. The holes that are in the area are not even threaded to take a bolt. Seems like an open and shut case for there being no left sided recovery point.

Maybe other trims or future years will be different.

Not plugging the AA is what the Toyota dealership told me.
