I just picked up my new 2025 4Runner TRD Off-road Premium in Everest. When I parked in the garage at home, I noticed a mark on the hood that won’t come off. Any suggestions as to what it may be and how to get it off?

Thanks in advance.

Bob

Could be from water. I’ve seen that happen before. Since you have it in the garage let it sit in there for a while and see if it fades away before taking it back to the dealer.

I have something similar in my other vehicle. It can be seen when the light is at certain angles. It's below the surface because it's not detectable by touch at all.

I did some googling and had read that maybe it was moisture etc, and that it may dissipate over time, but it hasn't. Ultimately haven't had it looked at because that's a lease and didn't prioritize it since it's a nonfunctional issue. But I did send them photos and have them make a note of it so it is on the record that it got delivered with that defect.

Definitely ask your dealership about it!

It is under the paint and doesn’t appear to be going away. I will certainly ask the dealer. I’m totally OCD and that will bug the hell out of me. Plus it is worse in the sunlight.

Good news, I had the same issue in the same area and it was easily removed. It had me equally puzzled because you couldn't feel it, you could just see the milky cloudiness, and you could see the runs in it where it had flowed.

I took mine back to the dealer, who had me take it to their paint shop next door and they said it probably has something to do with moisture getting under the protective film they use on the hood during transport and he sees this a handful of times a year. He said it won't buff out but you just have to "give it a little heat" and it clears up. He took it back into his shop and I have no idea what he did but it looked perfect 10 minutes later. In hindsight, I wonder if it would have cleared up on its own if I left it parked in the sun.

Good luck and while I know I would be tempted to address on my own, I would suggest taking it back to the dealer and let a professional correct it.

To echo @TN4Runner it could just be moisture from the protective wrap they have on paint during transport. The way that looks on yours, it looks just like when they put that film over new paint that is still off-gassing and isn't 100% dry yet.

Take a look at this video from Ammo NYC where he is detailing a brand new Porsche with similar looking lines to yours:

(link should direct you right to the 5:56 time stamp).

You can try a heat gun on low heat and see if that helps.

Edit - The fact that its on the hood too makes me believe that is the case since the hood is one of the few panels they put that protective plastic on new cars.

Just use a hair dryer. No need for a heat gun.

Stopped at the dealer this afternoon and they said they would take care of it, but maybe I will try a hair dryer to see if that helps. Thanks for the suggestion.
