I took delivery of my TRD Sport Premium the other day and was expecting a Slim Card Key Fob but did not receive one. It was that dealerships first sale of a 2025 4Runner and they told me that with the Tacoma, some arrive with the Slim Card Key Fob and others do not and they are never listed on the Spec sheet. They said Toyota just does it like that which I find hard to believe.

For those of you who have taken delivery of a TRD Sport Premium, did you receive a Slim Card Key Fob? Was it listed anywhere on the spec sheet or any place else.

For those who may have bought a Tacoma since these Slim Card Key Fobs were invented, does what the dealership told me ring true? Some just show up with it and there is no apparent rhyme or reason.

I didn’t get one with my sport premium and it wasn’t listed or mentioned anywhere. It might only be an option on the sport premium although I couldn’t find any info on it. It can be bought aftermarket but would need to be programmed by a dealer to work.

I doubt they will give you one of those since they want you to get a phone as key subscription.

I need some better Artificial Intelligence. I showed this to the Sales Manager and he came back to me out on the lot showing a screenshot on his phone that looked exactly like mine (Google Gemini) and his said it does NOT come with the slim key card. LOL

toyota is moving away from the key card and going digital key.

they make more money by you paying for a sub for the digital key than using a key card.

at least toyota is making small QoL things a side business instead of gate locking power bumps like VW does behind a sub/additional cost

at least if i dont want to pay for the digital key anymore, i am not losing any fundamental feature of the vehicle. i can still use the fob to unlock and start the vehicle or remote start it via the fob.

but i am happy to pay the $15 a month for the remote start and digital key via my phone since i know i can alway canx it and still retain my original functionality of the vehicle.

Volkswagen’s ID3 Pro and Pro S vehicles are some of their latest car models, and, while they look like a typical car the iconic vehicle manufacturer would deliver, there’s a secret under the hood. For both of these models, the maximum horsepower is listed at 228bhp (brake horsepower). However, driving the vehicle normally, you can only push it to 201bhp. In order to get that extra power out of it, you’ll have to pay extra. At around $20 a month, $200 a year, or a lump sum payment of roughly $760 dollars, you can get that full horsepower. And, while it’s difficult to imagine why the ID3 models are limiting themselves and forcing a paywall for users who want to put the pedal to the metal, Volkswagen explained their reasoning behind the change.

The way that the sub works for their ID3 vehicles is incredibly bizarre. Rather than it being tied to any one driver, the sub is tied to the vehicle. So, for instance, if someone were to pay the full price of buying that power boost for life and they were to sell their ID3 secondhand, whoever got the car next wouldn’t have to pay for it. Volkswagen views the service as a way to offer people more power under the hood without having to sell them a new car.

“Offering more power to customers is nothing new – historically many petrol and diesel vehicles have been offered with engines of the same size, but with the possibility of choosing one with more potency. These traditionally are higher up in the product range, with more specification and a higher list price,” reads a statement sourced from Autoexpress UK.
