For any of you considering a roof top tent, be warned that the dynamic roof load rating of the 6th gen is now 165, down from 300 lbs on the 5th gen. I was a bit bummed to hear that as I intend to put a tent up top, I'll now need to be very selective and find a very light weight tent and rack.

Well the last 4runner was 220lbs/100kg. I looked everywhere for this, eventually found through arb USA. I believe the 165lbs is what the rack supplied by Toyota can hold. I'm looking into buying a 6th gen but still can't find a true roof load rating. I'm hoping it's the same. But I wouldn't be surprised if it's lower as the land cruiser 200 used to be 150kg now only 90kg for the land cruiser 300 which we have the lexus version of here in usa. The problem as well with 4 runner is only 2 mounting points per side. If anyone has any data on the roof would be ideal. Problem is the roof rack companies and Toyota dealers don't know either, which is a major flaw, could go against you in an insurance claim, if they find it's severely overloaded. Ronny Dahl did a youtube video all about this, it's a great watch. I'm assuming it's same as lc250 as they share the same platform with gx550 as well but they do 3 points of contact to attach rack to on each side.

I do believe that weight is in regards to their rack and roof combo. Many aftermarket racks have higher weight limit.
I have driven all over CA with a RTT on my westcott rack.

its kinda all over the place depending on who you look up, the oem roof rack is rated for general population carrying stuff on the roof. to get higher ratings you would need to go aftermarket with beefier components.

you have to remember, for crash testing the roof has to hold up the vehicle if it lands on its top and not crush which is a bigger load rating than what most roof racks can take.
