Retractable Cargo Cover Storage

The salesman told me that the retractable cargo cover can be stored in the narrow space at the very back of the cargo area. I took it out of the brackets and tried to put it in the storage space. No way it fits. Or am I crazy? Has anyone found a place to store the cover inside the vehicle when not in use? I could just leave it in my garage, but that’s a waste.

I can tell you that in my wife's '23 Highlander it works like that but it definitely isn't set up like that in the 4Runner. No way it'd fit.
