I have been chasing a rattle that seemed to be coming from the entire rear cargo area at random and I finally thought to look at the rear hatch panel.
If you’re having intermittent clacking and rattling this is the fix.
These highlighted red circles areas are the principle offenders. You’ll see that I added soft Velcro literally everywhere on this panel during my diagnosis but the immediate fix was these areas. What they are supposed to hold onto is the lip of the hatch frame behind the rear window, but it does not fit snugly enough to not rattle back and forth. Adding the Velcro immediately silenced any and all rattles back here.
Edit: BONUS location to check: the bottle jack and strap on the left of the cargo area. I've found that the vibrations from the rear of the vehicle loosen the pressure the jack has to secure itself, so it's a good exercise to retighten it time to time. Also, its good practice to add something between the rubber stretch strap clip and the bracket since it is metal on metal contact that is fairly loose.
