I’ve been on a quest to remove rattles from my 4Runner and naturally the next on the list was the rear spoiler.
It was surprisingly easy to remove with six bolts along the inner edge. 4 are hidden behind the rubber grommets.
Once these are removed it’s as simple as gently lifting up and away from the vehicle where there’s a bunch of clips that will separate.
Once removed it’s pretty clear where the rattle comes from, which is the very loose metal bolt points that just slide into the plastic. I just added some thin felt tape to the plastic and then slid the bolt retainers back snugly.
The squeaks themselves come from the split nature of the spoiler having the plastic skin and the plastic reinforcing layer underneath, but you can split them up by removing the metal screws. Layering more felt tape between the two resolved any squeaks.
Here are some pictures of the spoiler and attachment points.
