just a reminder if you add your vehicle to the toyota app before you can actually go thru the headunit process, the app will not let you correctly add the vehicle after you go thru the correct headunit procedure with your phone.

DO NOT add the vehicle via vin in the toyota website or thru the app.

i did this and head to blow out my primary profile in the vehicle and remove the vehicle via the website. (if you try to remove it via the app, it will come back with a server error every time).

the vehicle head unit and your toyota app need to sync at the same time otherwise your trial periods will not activate. it will always say empty tank and n/a for odometer readings, no psi readings, etc via the app.

It’s a good thing Toyota builds great vehicles because their software is garbage. The app, the infotainment, all of it. Sorry, rant over. 😄

I just bought mine yesterday and the dealer added the VIN the way you said not to do it and sure enough nothing in the app works correctly. Do you have a step by step procedure on how to reset everything so I can redo the connection process to the vehicle? I would appreciate any more guidance you could provide.

1. you will have to log into the website and delete the vehicle from the dashboard / loaded vehicles under your toyota owners account

2. once that is done, it will take a random amount of time ( i waited 30 mintues) and then you have to go into your head unit and delete any non primary driver profile

3. once all non primary profiles are deleted, then you can delete the primary profile

4. remove all phones from the bluetooth section of the head unit

5. go into the app and see if the vehicle is no longer there (step 1)

6. turn off the vehicle

7. let it set for 30-60 secs

8. start up the vehicle and have only 1 fob with you (or the fob you prefer for yourself)

9. you should be able to load the vehicle in the app and go the the initial setup process

10. you do the process either in the app or head unit which ever your prefer

11. i preferred the head unit approach myself as you can enter the 6-8 digit code from the head unit into the app

do not have any other phone or fob near the vehicle it will confuse the shite out the vehicle during setup.

when trying to link the fob to the profile if the other fob is near by you might be setting up the out of range fob as the linked fob.

also do not have 2 seperate toyota owners accounts. i tried that, it a royal PITA if you use remote start.

you can only have a vehicle on one account for remote start. if you share the remote start, you transfer the remote start function to the other account and it removes it from your account.

its better to have a single account and log into it with multiple phones

you can set each phone in the app to have a default vehicle for that phone.

also check the box to remember login on the login screen

you can have up to 3 profiles per vehicle (primary and 2 secondary) and the profiles are save to the vehicle, not the account.

i usually make myself as primary driver on the 23 tundra and 25 4runner and the wife profile is the secondary profile on both vehicles.

Super helpful. Thankyou Nodak! I’ll try this process in the next few days and let you know how it goes. Thanks again.
