OTT tune and air intake installed: drives amazing

Hello,

I’ve installed the banks air intake with an OTT tune on the 25 sr5 4x4. Truck is literally a new truck from stock and drives amazing. No issues at all it’s been about 6 months now. I waited about a year to get the OTT tune but I’m extremely glad I did.

I can honestly say I was nervous as well. But the tune along with the intake was the best decision I made. You’ll love the responsiveness, sport mode is out of this world fast for this vehicle. It really wakes the truck up.

Just got OTT tuned from Big Horn Tuning in MT. Shoutout to the great tuner, Isaac. He traveled to my hotel & did the tune in the parking lot. The drive after is exhilarating! I have on Normal mode & was passing slow 18-wheelers on highway with ease. In some case, my 4Runner was hitting over 100mph in seconds. Never had the need to switch to Sport mode but I know it's available. This tune woke up the truck. Boost kicked in instantly when you get on the gas pedal & pushed you back in the seat like those high performance sport car.

I have the SXTH intake & Revel catback exhaust. From my butt dyno alone, I feel the tune gave it 50 whp, which is a little more from the actual dyno test from OTT.

I got the same tune as well, I also added the banks RAM air intake. Both of those paired together in sport mode this truck is unstoppable It’s super fun to drive.

@dandan310 @BonRunner does OTT change the trans / TCM tune as well? I had the OTT on my GEN3 Tacoma but was disappointed with driving characteristics. It did make more power but drove like crap. I only ask cause I am going to pull the trigger on something in the next few weeks. I'm on the fence between OTT and a custom tune with the Cobb AP.

Yes, OTT flashes both the ECU and TCM, so the transmission behavior is completely recalibrated rather than just masked with throttle mapping. It fixes the factory 8-speed tendency to rush into top gear for fuel economy, virtually eliminating gear hunting and erratic cycling on rolling hills or highway grades by holding gears longer and downshifting with intent.

Shift quality is noticeably firmer and faster through revised hydraulic line pressure and clutch timing, cutting out sluggish slip between gears without feeling harsh.

OTT also locks up the torque converter earlier under moderate throttle for direct power transfer, refines shift schedules across all drive modes, and recalculates shift tables to account for larger tire sizes so the truck no longer feels bogged down.

Does this earlier locking up the torque converter reduce overheating when going slow uphill in 4-Hi?

Thanks @BonRunner . That's exactly what I needed to hear. The way the factory tune lets the converter slip bugs me. I drive in tow haul mode quite a bit just because of that alone. I'll reach out to my local OTT guy.
