New Redarc brake controller install 2026 TRD ORP not functioning but steady blue light

I have read the Redarc manual and tow section in 4Runner manual and I am stuck.
4Runner recognizes camper trailer is there through the 7 pin connection. Camper is 2020 nuCamp T@B 320 CSS BDL-just under 2000 pounds dry. I have towed the camper previously with a 4 door Wrangler and DrawTite brake controller.. Camper has electric brakes.
4Runner trailer light test works.
Redarc button is steady blue when camper is connected but does not change to red when 4Runner brakes applied.
Any ideas? TIA

Got it working in my SR5 no problem. I used the tow pro-liberty and the toyota wiring harness.

You can test the brake controller by connecting the 7-pin to the trailer and pushing in the brake controller button. You should be able to hear the electric brakes engage if you have your ear close to the trailer wheel (need 2 people to do this).

Also, make sure you set the level above zero (like 5) as zero may mot engage unless you press the brakes heavily.

Yeah, I really expected this to be a plug and play situation. Hardest part of the install was getting the dash apart and finding a place to mount it. I did try to play with pressing the button and turning up the dial. It just stayed blue. I have notes in to eTrailer (where I bought it) and Redarc. Some of my research indicates maybe the Redarc isn't getting a brake signal from the 4Runner, but this part is showing as compatible with my vehicle.

Do you for sure have a trailer detected? On my less fancy dash screen, there is a settings page that shows a picture of a trailer and the vehicle. It should say trailer active/connected and show the picture of the trailer not greyed out. In my car, I can’t fully enable the trailer mode until i start driving with the trailer and the dash prompts me to press and hold ok to have a trailer connected. Not sure if brakes work before then.

There is also a settings page to set the length of the trailer. I had to make a trailer profile I think before it worked.

And did you use the toyota specific hardness? If not, I would check the wiring…
