2025 ORP, 5 miles new, only option was sunroof. 112 miles on it now. I am a retired Engineer by trade, so my writing skills are limited. This is a review of my recently purchased ORP. I picked it up last Tuesday June 17th, 2025.
Interior- nice quality, over all quite nice but surfaces are hard. Rear seats don’t fold flat which sucks.
Exterior- Love it, the Silver paint is great the black plastic is plentiful in a bad way. Overall the 4R looks great IMO. Removed the running boards, 6 bolts each side.
Tires- nice ride quality. Stock Falkens are not bad. Had to drop air pressure from 45 psi in every tire to 33 per the door sticker. The tires are surprisingly quiet for the size of the rubber lugs.
Ride Quality- no secrets here, it’s bouncy. I have a history of owning pickup trucks so this is no surprise to me. Ride-wise the it’s much different than my Pilot, Exploder or Highlander, so again it’s not surprising it’s just more bouncy. Nice ride quality overall for the ORP.
Toyota “Safety Sense” 3.0- I think I’ve disabled all of the sillyness. I couldn’t even back out of my driveway or pull into my garage without the braking.
Entertainment Screen- super impressed, the large screen (12 inch) is bright (during the day). When backing up, the vision is really good. The width of field and brightness is so much better than the 2021 Explorer that I traded in. The chipset they use is way more responsive than the Ford, the satellite radio changes channels very quickly from one channel to another almost like changing radio stations. Also the satellite radio works in my garage which it never has before. No lag when touching the screen, very responsive. Wireless Carplay works perfectly, not using USB-C cable.
Brakes- underwhelming but not fully bedded in yet, no squeaking in reverse like others have reported.
Engine- impressed, nice power, quiet, I here the direct injection nozzles like others have commented on but it’s not too loud. Good power especially in Sport or Tow Haul modes. Normal mode is a bit slow as they say. The smoothness of the power delivery is tons better than the Ford. I don’t know the terminology but it had a very narrow operating range, when revs are too low it had no power (I know this is pretty normal for turbo cars), too high of revs the turbo signed off quickly, it just spun, not moving air. The 4R turbo seems integrated much better with the rest of the drivetrain.
Transmission- super nice so far, no hard shifts or other issue like a few peeps have commented on. Very quiet. I love the trans T shifter is large and moves easily, very glad to not have a rotating wheel shifter like on the Ford.
NVH- impressed, no rattles, The Ford was terrible in this regard. There are literally no rattles so that’s great IMO.
Quietness in cabin- pretty quiet IMO, it’s no Lexus, but decently good.
HVAC- weird buttons, The AC button light is not on even though the AC is on, figure that one out, the manual sucks and is no help. Weird AC button light turns off every time the car is turned off, S-flow button also hard to figure out, the manual is poorly written here.
Steering quality- quite nice, I hear it’s tons better than previous gens, seems very good to me, not Porsche like of course, no where close to that but still decent for an SUV that gets updated every 14 years,
Stereo- decent, the highs are ok but get better as you turn up the volume the lows are lacking severely, I set my controls to flat so take that into account.
Start/stop system- yay, not present, finally this scourge is not in my car.
Dealer experience- it was pretty good, I’m in a Chicago suburb so they get a lot of competition to make them stand out. They were no pressure except the Finance guy that still wants you to buy all overpriced crap.
Mileage so far- it’s low but things are tight, I think I have 16.0 on the average, not sad abt that.
Homelink buttons on rearview mirror- I can not get it to work. I have a 3 button Chinese remote that works in the 4R but it does not pair with the Homelink. I have a Liftmaster brand 3 button door opener (893Max) arriving tonight from Amazon that will probably pair and work correctly so wish me luck. Update, the 893Max opener pairing worked. You first pair it to the Homelink button you want to use, this worked finally. I can now use the Homelink button on the mirror to open/close the garage door.
