Interior Cargo Lights - how to turn off when liftgate is open?

I feel like a fool asking this but cannot for the life of me figure out how to turn off the interior cargo lights when the lift gate is open! I am sure it's something incredibly simple but I am missing it in the owners manual.

I am working on installing some Molle panels in the cargo area and have the lift open but the interior lights have stayed on and I don't want to drain the battery and would like them off! In the 5th gen it was an easy overhead switch over the middle seat. Can someone please set me straight?

There’s no switch or setting, they are always on. Easiest option I found is to use a small stick to “close” the latch on the hatch itself once open so the 4Runner thinks it’s closed when it’s not. Dead easy to do, and if you have the motorized hatch it will unlock when you first press the close button, then you need to press close again to actually close it. So no worries about it trying to close the hatch with the mechanism still locked.

I use this every weekend when out camping, works fine and I actually keep a tent stake handy in the back for just this use now.

It’s weird because mine won’t shut off automatically even after waiting 45 minutes.

Yeah mine also don’t shut off after 10 mins. Can’t say I love that. Appreciate the confirmations though!

isn't it the same as door lights? Set the overhead swtich to off for all the lights.

my SR5 shuts off automagically in ten, and no, the dome control
doesn't affect the rear cargo lights. they respond to rear hatch only ime
