Top notch insult my friend.
Certainly not up to the MIT debate team standards of "Hor, hor, butthurt!".

I had a whole explaination about unpacking someone's words to expose what they didn't say, and explained a few of my own "why" but decided that would just sound more butthurtbecause it was longer than one line.

But the crux is, their question was disingenuous, exposed by what they actually focussed on and what words they used. They did not ask about accessorizing bling on trucks in general, they asked about "TRD and Trailhunter on lower trim levels". That's a question about status signaling, nothing else.

My own example reasons for why I got the trd grill and steps are totally uninteresting. For the grill, I don't like the oval logo. I also don't really like any logos or badges, but if I have to choose one, I do like the old TOYOTA better than the ovals. Now there is at least one aftermarket grill that has the hexagons and seperate letters that you can leave off. I may now buy that even though I've already bought and installed the trd one. Then again, even if I do get that aftermarket one, I may not install it because it depends what the quality looks like. The pics on it's site are not clear or up close enough to tell if it's a 3d print from a 3d scan, or a cast from a mold from a casting of an oem grill, or if it's actually good. I prefer no logo, but I like the toyota text in high quality better than no logo in low quality.

Similar for the steps, I got the cast aluminum because that is the one I like the best out of everything available so far. I actually like the look of the "lower trim level" steps, but I don't like the plastic construction, and I don't like that it is an unbroken surface with a vertical lip that will collect snow all winter, while the trd step has no lip and has slots in the middle. Yet, actually one thing I don't like about those steps are the TRD logo in the middle and the skinny spot which is only there to create a place for the logo. A version of that step without the trd logo in the middle, and bolted to the frame instead of the body, does not exist. If it did, that's what I'd get regardless who made it. But it doesn't exist, so I got the closets thing to what I want. The nerf tubes and the predator steps are right out for different reasons.

There is no reason for anyone to care about all these little things I like and don't like. It's not interesting to you right now and it wasn't interesting to them then, which begs the question "why did they ask?" and "just curious" is insufficient. They were not curious, they had an opinion, but they knew it was unsavory, and they had that IQ problem someone mentioned and thought they had a genius way to express that opinion without anyone noticing or being able to do something like unpack words to expose things which were not spoken.

The answer to their "why?" is "for whatever reasons they may have" which are countless.

In my own case the "TRDness" vs "lower trim levelness" was not the significant facet in either case.

I didn't get the trd grill or the trd steps because they were trd. In fact I wish the steps did not say TRD on them. Same for the skid plate. I got the trd skid plate and I wish it was exactly like it is, except I wish it did not say TRD on it. And similarly my sr5 being a low trim level has no explicable bearing on anything. They're "just curious" about that? Why exactly? What aspect of the trim level has any effect on the accessory? Come on let's unpack it. Consider: the trd steps don't automatically come on all higher trim levels. It's an accessory you may or may not add. So, they would not be "just curious" why someone might want the trd steps on a higher trim level, but they are "just curious" why someone would want the same steps on a sr5? Why? What changes? Do the steps not perform the same function on any trim level? The thread was originally about the grill but it's the same question for the grills. But they didn't ask about anything about the objects themselves, what they are good for, bad for etc. They only asked pointedly about trd on lower trim levels. The factors they by their own words cared about was the "TRD" and "low trim level".

Curious to see if youve had any issues with the grill lights turning on- on you at random times. Park mine at work and had multiple people tell me the grill lights were on.

Interesting you mention that. Depending on which fuse you tap into will determine if they stay on a little bit after you turn off the vehicle. I remember when I was installing mine they would stay on for a little bit, maybe like 30 seconds to a min, after I turned off the vehicle. I finally tapped into a fuse that would not do that.

I wanted to do it also to my sr5 but I was worried about it doing the lower one. This looks great with just doing the upper portion.
