Hello everyone
Same issue just happened to me

Bought a 26 4Runner off road premium put 1,780 miles on it before this same issue. Came w the trd rims n tires n roof rack if that makes a difference.

Took it to my local dealer this morning after hearing a thud and then sudden loss of power on the highway and it going limp mode/misfiring. Drove it immediately to the dealership where it was basically vibrating and misfiring the whole way there with sustained high rpm and poor gear shifting. That was in the morning around 8:30, I got a call today from the service advisor around 1:30 saying their tech changed some plugs/coils around and cleared the codes and it’s not doing it and that these cars tell us info that the drivers don’t know and that they’re recording etc and that the suv saw that I accelerated to 90 mph and that’s when a check engine light came on.

The check engine light did not turn on -along w a bunch of other lights -until there was the above described issue and I was cruising on i95 South doing 80mph. The initial reading was probably me getting into the highway but I never sustained 90 mph at all and the car had def warmed up well before going on the highway.

Should I be worried? He said they can’t take it up to 90 mph to replicate what may have happened and that’s crazy etc (never asked them to) and that they might keep it overnight to try and replicate it.

They got me a Lyft to my house but I’m worried this suv will be a ticking time bomb if all they did was clear the codes never checked the trans etc. What do yall suggest? I’ve owned two gr corollas and heard about the infamous 85 mph warranty refusals but this car is unmodified and driven like a granny even the highway acceleration was to merge without getting rear ended by rush hour South Florida drivers, it has never gotten up there before and it was probably a second before i coasted back down to 70.

what’s best course of action, wait and see if they can replicate? Call and see before they close if I can get a loaner oe wait until tomorrow morning?

I would drive it the way I always drive. If it does it again call a tow truck and have it dropped off. If they bring up the speed again tell them that the speed you were driving is irrelevant. If it's not capable of doing 90 without self destructing then Toyota should've set the speed governor to a lower speed to prevent it. But since they didn't you have the right to drive the vehicle you're paying for up to the maximum speed it can do if you so choose.

Well they called me this morning and said the person delivering the parts didn’t make it and have given me a loaner, when I checked the Toyota app it’s only showing a hybrid system malfunction notice. Hoping it was just the issue of the misfire and I get the truck back today when the part comes in and the hybrid system notice just needed to be cleared …gosh on a brand new toyota 4Runner.
