If you buy the NYTOP front bumper, be here so advised that if you order it in steel, it will be powder coated black, and if you order it in aluminum, it will be powder coated silver.
I was *certain*, 8 weeks ago, that I ordered the NYTOP front bumper in aluminum and powder coated black.
It arrived today and it's silver. ...and the web site has been updated since then so my 8-weeks old memory is worthless and I can't prove or claim anything ...and when I called they say that's just the way it comes and never was any other option. Aluminum is powdercoated silver and steel is powdercoated black, and the only color choice is the recovery points red or black.
And I can't argue. My email receipt in fact does not specify the finish of the main bumper at all, neither silver or black, just "material: aluminum". The part number has BLK in it, but that's apparently just for the recovery points. The pictures almost all showed black, and the ones that aren't black looked like scans or cad renders since the truck is also all grey/white just like the bumper, but those are just pictures not explicit text.
And it's not otherwise defective or wrong. It is aluminum as ordered, the recovery points are black as ordered, and it doesn't appear damaged or out of shape (not installed yet so this is just by eyeball sitting on the floor), so all I can do is keep it and pay some other shop to strip it and then powdercoat it again, and wait the yet more weeks for however long that takes after already waiting 7 1/2 weeks for it to arrive in the first place. (8-27 to 10-17)
I'm just bent that's all. Please excuse my venting.
I just wish their site had been clearer that's all. Even if they don't offer any other coating option, if I'd had any idea that it was going to be coated silver I would have at least called to ask about getting it bare unfinished if possible before ordering. And even if the answer would have been no, at least I'd know. I'd have had the stripping & recoating job lined up already. Or I'd have done the total math and decided it's not worth $1500 or $2000 for a bumper and got someone else's instead of NYTOP. Or I'd have just waited for the $142 replacement plastic lower valence to finally ship from toyota instead of getting any aftermarket real bumper. I actually already have one of those on order but they just aren't actually available yet and it's already been mohths and still no projected availability from toyota.
Now it's here and it's just aggrevating that I have to find a shop and wait however long they will take and I'm not looking forward to tearing the front grill all apart all day outside in late november / early december in nj. Today would have been a perfect day.
blah.
