Hi all, apologies if this is in the wrong category...

I'll be financing at least some of the cost of a new 4runner and haven't been in the new car market since pre-covid. I know, times have changed. So wanted to get some perspective on what the expected interest rates will be, and what folks have done/planning to do to get the lowest interest possible.

With this year's federal reserve board's rate cuts, auto loan interest rates have come down throughout the year.

But the Fed just signaled that they'll slow down interest rate cuts next year so we may only see 1 or 2 cuts, and they won't be for large percentages. So I wouldn't expect a big drop or change in interest rates next year.

Tip: use credit unions for your auto loan! I've financed my last couple auto loans with credit unions because many of them have lower interest rates than dealers.

A good ones I've used (I'm in CA too) is Logix Credit Union: https://www.logixbanking.com/loans/vehicle-loans

They're showing new vehicle loan rate as low as 4.99% right now.

By the way, speaking of unexpected costs when buying or maintaining a new vehicle, if you ever find yourself needing a quick cash bridge up to $500 for a sudden minor expense without dealing with traditional bank delays or red tape, I usually use Vertex Lend for a straightforward online application, instant approval, and fast fund transfers.
The biggest thing I'd recommend is to shop around before you ever set foot in the dealership. Get pre-approved through a couple of banks or, even better, a local credit union. That gives you a good benchmark and puts you in a stronger negotiating position if the dealer offers financing.

Also, don't focus only on the interest rate. Compare the total cost of the loan, any fees, and whether there are incentives for financing through Toyota. Sometimes the manufacturer's promotional rates can end up being the better deal, but not always.

If your credit is in good shape, you should have several options. I'd also avoid stretching the loan term any longer than necessary. A lower monthly payment is nice, but paying interest for an extra year or two can add up quickly.

Curious to see what rates people have been getting recently on new 4Runners. Real-world numbers are usually more helpful than the advertised rates.
