Finally got a chance to install the Backwoods Driftr full-roof rack I grabbed for Black Friday.

Besides just really liking the overall low-profile look and the great Black Friday price, the (other) 2 main factors that led me to choose this one over the competition were:

1 - I liked that you basically build it on the roof, making it a relatively easy solo install (opposed to building it off the vehicle, then trying to maneuver and attach it without scratching up your paint).

2 - It was the only full roof install I saw where you didn't have to cut the factory weatherstripping for the front mounts - they just sit on top.

I have noticed some slight wind noise up around 70 mph, but not bad at all. So far I've only done some minor tweaking to the fairing position but might try adjusting the overall height of the whole rack just to see how it affects it.

Besides, I'm sure once I throw the Baja Designs light bar (I also grabbed for Black Friday) on there, that's going to totally change things completely anyway....

But either way, I'm totally digging it so far! Super-solid and (in my opinion) looks great!

Note - the grab handles were add-ons purchased from Agency 6.

Looks great! No problem sealing the weather stripping/bolts? Any worry about water intrusion at all?

@SNDR – Well, not until you just mentioned it… 🤣

But seriously, All the OEM weatherstripping is still intact, so I guess you mean for mid and rear mounts where the original rails bolted up? Backwoods supplies a full tube of high-quality clear silicone, which I applied very liberally around the holes where the mounting blocks meet the roof. Had a decent rain for like 2 days after I put it on – so far so good. Hopefully, it stays that way! šŸ¤ž

Nice! Didn't mean to make you worry. I watched their Install video on YouTube and it seemed like when installed properly there shouldn't be an issue.

What do you plan on putting up there?

@SNDR – Nah - totally, I was just joking... I’ll give a tweak/check after the first time I really use it, but I think it should be fine.

I don’t see myself using it for anything too crazy at the moment. At some point I’d like to do a RTT with a ladder on the liftgate. But currently I just don’t have room to store it when not in use and wouldn’t want to leave it on there all the time since it’s a DD. So, for now it would mainly be for fishing poles, traction boards, full-length shovel, etc…

I also have a Plano rifle case I was using for something else that I want to modify to be ā€˜mountable.ā€ So, I can store some recovery gear and other odds and ends in there to make it easy to swap between the 4R and the Taco.
