Day after I bought my OR I went straight to the tire shop and put on a set of Wildpeak AT4s. I wouldn't use the stock tires for anything but pavement...
I honestly never considered using them to get in and out...
I just got tired of practically dislocating my finger because my tungsten wedding ring would get snagged on the edge of the rack every time I'd try to climb down from grabbing or putting something up there...
We will improve the plate. Thanks.
That would be awesome!
I already have the P190. I just wanted to try the 'universal' one as it looked more stout.
I bought it from Amazon, but it's outside the return window now - any chance you guys would take it back for store credit? š
@SNDR ā Nah - totally, I was just joking... Iāll give a tweak/check after the first time I really use it, but I think it should be fine.
I donāt see myself using it for anything too crazy at the moment. At some point Iād like to do a RTT with a ladder on the liftgate. But currently I just donāt...
@SNDR ā Well, not until you just mentioned it⦠š¤£
But seriously, All the OEM weatherstripping is still intact, so I guess you mean for mid and rear mounts where the original rails bolted up? Backwoods supplies a full tube of high-quality clear silicone, which I applied very liberally around...
Funny someone mentioned an 86 Camaro with T-tops because I had one! Z28 (non- IROC) - wish I still had that one... But also an '81 and a '79 Firebird, both with T-tops also... As well as various other cars with sun/moon roofs. And while I've only had minimal issues with any of them - minor leaks...
@Wolfbox - As an update to this, it turns out that the (more robust looking) universal mounting arm doesnāt work on the 6th Gen 4Runner. At least I couldnāt figure out how to make it work⦠The shorter length compared to the Toyota (technically Camary) specific one makes it impossible to connect...
Yeah, it would definitely be nice to have the convenience of push-button opening, but not for $5k (and a bunch of other Premium package features I didnāt care for)⦠Sucks it wasn't offered as it's own option...
But as @geevoor mentions ā my problem isnāt the opening, itās the closing. And itās...
@YotaMerchant - On the low end of the spectrum just it not working or failing within a relatively short amount of time. But on the more severe end, the liftgate actually bending (which may or may not be due to improper installation). But still, that was enough for me to just forget about it...
I'd be interested to know too since this is the only feature I feel like I missed out on going with the non-premium OR. And I haven't found a good solution for adding the missing pull strap that previous gens had.
But I've read some horror stories with these aftermarket kits, so I'm hesitant...
Finally got a chance to install the Backwoods Driftr full-roof rack I grabbed for Black Friday.
Besides just really liking the overall low-profile look and the great Black Friday price, the (other) 2 main factors that led me to choose this one over the competition were:
1 - I liked that you...
@Undefeatable - Ha! Looks the same to me!
I used Sticker Fabs video install guide for the EKRs, and they seemed pretty identical...
I guess I should note too, some people complain that the rear seat backs aren't covered (you can see the straps) and that they aren't actually waterproof. Not a...
I went with these and have no complaints. I think they are basically the same as the EKR:

All the screws are tight. It's just that the arm is much longer than the stock one and the digital mirror is considerably heavier, making it prone to vibration. As much is I don't like the look, I'm considering removing it and remounting the OEM mirror and using the straps.
But for a vehicle...
I just installed mine using the OEM style bracket (P190 if I remember correctly) and noticed right away that there's a considerable amount of vibration when driving on a fairly smooth road compared to the stock mirror. Anything I can do to alleviate that?
Outside of that, I have no complaints...
