Installed cargo area lights and noticed some trims have a switch to control them — mine (Limited) didn't come with one (it's blank... No switch there).
Opened the trim panel and found a connector already there. Not sure if the switch is for the cargo lights or not. Has anyone done this retrofit before?

that is led illumination beam switch K79

it's for accessory lights like ditch lights

Instead of powering a component from the assembly line, this switch routes power to the vehicle’s factory pre-wired auxiliary pigtails. Depending on your exact trim level, these dead-end wires are typically located:
  • Behind the front grille/bumper area (for forward-facing light bars or fog kits).
  • Near the cowl/A-pillars (for ditch lights)

So in theory if we had got those switches we could use factory wiring to run use that switch for a light bar? I don't remember seeing any wiring behind the bumper though.

if you find unused pigtails you may be able to use them
and it is hard to tell when and where they leave extras behind.
(unused copper costs a lot)

D pillar lights for example. pigtails exist on model w/o
D pillar lights, so just get the lights and fish out the pigtails.

I haven't checked my poor-mans SR5** for other unused wiring
so it may vary who gets unused pigtails for other trims

if you find an unused connector best bet is chase down the connector
type and color code in the TIS EWD before assuming you can use it, lest
you blow up the ECU or canbus system

**been wheeling enuf to know my SR5 will still go
99.9999% anywhere the high zoot trims will go, I just need to think harder
in certain situations. and I hate the extra tech stuff so don't miss it
