Anybody else experiencing a clank / hard clunk when you shift from 4wd back to 2wd? Doing so while moving (not fast) and not on the gas. Find it still can do it stopped when you then start to try to move again. Wondering if normal or not.

I too have noticed this but its more pronounced when on the gas. I tend to let off the gas and then shift. It does however seem very crude and clunky overall.

From reading other posts on the topic, I beleive the overall conclusion is this is normal.

Keep under 100km/hr aka 62mph. Keep wheels straight, take foot off gas and let RPM drop, then switch from 4Hi to 2Hi. Shouldn't feel/hear a thing.

sometimes it will clank, it depends on the current amount of
stress and twist on the props

'99 4runner, sometimes silent, sometimes kabang, and everything in-between
'13 tacoma, same
'25 4runner, same

try not to kabang it too much...find how it engages most easily for you and
then try to use that method when you need to engage/disengage

usually it is easiest and smoothest when
off the gas,
moving in straight line,
and if it hesitates to engage/disengage speed up
a bit or slow down a bit

if it really won't engage or disengage... stop, neutral, and then
try it...and if still not working, creep forward a bit or back a
bit then try it again...same for the rear locker, it can be fussy
