4Runner keeps beeping - what does it mean? Truck turned off, doors open.

the logic on the rear seat reminder is crappy at best. if you open a rear door and dont do a corresponding door opening, it will beep.

they really should have put a pressure sensor on the seat pad than using the door open/close sequence.

sometimes i put something in via the door and take it out with me when i exit the drivers seat, or vice versa, take it with me (hoodie) and take it off and take it out via the back seat.
rear seat weight sensors will not work properly for a variety of reasons.

Toyota has already solved this rear seat reminder problem**,
but it is currently only on the Sienna. ARSR mmWave sensing...
and it might be added to more models in 2026 and onward.

(if something moves in certain scanned locations in
the rear even a tiny bit, you'll get an alert)

**It may never fully stop false alarms, but it will increase positive alarms which
is the main goal. "So we annoyed you, so what ?" But if we don't alert you while
some kid is left in back dying, that is what we are trying to remedy.

Does there Toyota app show a notification with any sort of hint what might be causing it. If the dash cam, that is a good find for those with that option.

Yeah, it's annoying, but I don't believe it is sensor driven, just a user-selected warning. That said, you can turn it off in the dash settings (not the app). Gotta dig a little, but you'll find it...then select "OFF"

it's about opening and closing doors sequence. if you open rear door only
once in any drive cycle, it's gonna bark at you if you don't open a rear
door again when you park and shut it off and leave. I've disabled it in the MID.
