Lost Key FOB replacement?

A family member lost her Key FOB to our 6 gen 4 runner TRD OFF Road. My dealer want $600.00 to replace it. Are there any less expensive ways around using the dealer?

I don't know definitively, but I've seen tons of YouTube videos about mobile locksmiths coming out and programming new keys for folks that have lost their fobs. Maybe call around and see what prices they can offer?

Costcos around me had those key making vans parked out front. I wanted the credit card key fob but they did not provide that yet

I looked into getting a third spare when I got my 6th gen ORP and discovered that dealer programming or a professional locksmith shop that has the equipment, knowledge to do it. I seem to remember $600 was about the cost of the correct FOB itself plus dealer programming.

I went to my dealer today to see about getting a new Key FOB. The Key FOB it's self cost $340.28. To have the Key FOB programmed cost $272.00. They say programming takes 1.5 hours.

They don't stock the Key FOB, so it will be 7–10 days to get it.

Furthermore, they told me that during closing when they try to sell you all the overpriced options I was or should have been offered for $399.00 up to 3 free FOB replacement. I'm sure if I had been offered that I would have turned it down anyway.

Ace hardware stores has a set up to reprogram fobs. It’s whether or not they have 6th gen fobs. They have whole spinning rack of fobs and oem keys

Just as a follow-up, to the lost Key FOB we found it and canceled the appointment for the new one.
