So here’s the situation I’m in. I have a deposit down on a 25 TRD Sport Premium Heritage blue at MSRP. I obviously want to get the best deal on the car. Has anyone used the allocation spreadsheet to find a similar vehicle that has a discount and negotiate with it? I’m seeing similar vehicles around $2500 less than what mine is, but I’m fine not saving that much since I’d have to fly to get some of these vehicles. But even like $500 off is better than nothing. I just feel like I have no leverage in this negotiation given how fast these cars are selling.

I live in Denver metro where dealers are getting many thousand $$ "additional dealer markup". So I was thrilled to be able to pay "only" MSRP by reserving my TRD off-road in Laramie, WY and taking a bus ($35) to pick it up. Good, honest dealership in Laramie too.

I’m fine with paying MSRP and I’m definitely glad my dealer doesn’t have mark ups. I just wasn’t sure if using other dealers posted discounts was a logical way to negotiate. Like go in and say something like “I’m not necessarily looking for you to match this discount posted at Dealer X or this discount at Dealer Y, but there are dealers willing to sell below MSRP so what can you do for me.”

I’m in CO Springs and going through Corwin Toyota Colorado Springs, they are a msrp only dealership and because of the constant qc hold, they have been knocking the price down and giving me great deals on accessories/mods. I highly recommend them and they aren’t too far from you all.

It can be. I have a truck reserved with $0 PIO and no dealer mark ups when it arrives. I’m paying exactly MSRP and nothing more other than the taxes/fees. I’m still shopping around, just in case I want to change models or trims. I tell these dealers when I shop around that I won’t pay for their $4995 or $3999 dealer add ons if they want to sell me a truck. At this point, with my truck reserved, I have the leverage. One guy called me yesterday who knows I have a Sport prem reserved at another dealer and I told him that if he takes 1k off MSRP I may buy it. He said he will check and never got back to me. It was the exact match and had only 2 PIO, with one installed item that is a deal killer for me. Color matched door Edge guards is a no go for me. I’ve seen several trucks with these installed over the past few days and they look fake and will get clogged up with dirt that won’t come out.

I have one reserved with a few add ons but nothing crazy. Really I just want like $500 off to cover the those add ons that are ridiculously priced. Like I don’t need the $250 “all weather” floor mats that I’m going to replace anyways. Its the only vehicle within ~200 miles of me that is the options I want (color , trim, etc) that isn’t pre reserved or marked up, so I feel I have a little less leverage

With Toyota’s 20% off ending tomorrow and dealers discounts, I’ve bought several items at 40-45% off total price. I payed $700 for Pro wheels before tax. Some dealers discounts vary and some don’t even show the 20% online.

Luckily I have a good 12 dealers within 30 miles from house. I also found the one dealer that allowed me to remove/ add PIO while my truck is on the ship. I removed 2k of PIO. The only item I added was mudguards as they can be a hassle to install, so saving $50 wasn’t worth my time. FYI, Toyota raised the price on 7/1, $500, so all 4Runners in build process will see this.

I would get the deal in writing first, Allot of these try and get you, They will have addons like lift kits, bigger wheels, Paint protection, theft protection.

I hadn’t thought about that. Thank you! I’ll message some of these dealers and see if I can get a price sheet that I can use as leverage

Mine came with the all-weather floor mats ($199) and all-weather cargo mat ($130). The standard felt mats also came with the vehicle (wrapped in plastic). The all-weather mats are great and I expect them to last "forever", unlike felt mats.

These are so hard to negotiate down. If you tell the dealer that you don’t want the truck unless they lower the price they will probably laugh. There are plenty of buyers lined up for these new 4Runners.

Depends where you are. Down in Texas they’re actually starting to pile up on dealer lots. Several dealerships around here taking 3-5K off MSRP before even negotiating on price. They all have the typical overpriced PIO junk to varying degrees but the discount off MSRP pretty much negates most of the stuff on them. I think patience is the key to getting a deal. The stop sale just ended and in the next month or so, even more inventory is going to be showing up at dealerships across the country. Ask any Tacoma owner that overpaid early in production how they feel now that Tacomas are being slashed by 5-6K off MSRP just to move what’s been piling up on lots over the past year.

Dealers won’t compete on prices outside of your market. They also will probably just tell you to buy it at the other dealer, and frankly if you have immediate access to another dealer with discounts, you should start there.

to answer your question, be prepared to pay sticker and negotiate down from there.
