I am looking at getting the new 4Runner and cannot decide between the Limited or Platinum. The sane (if you can call it that) says go with the limited because it’s cheaper and the features are almost the same between the 2 trims.

I really like the look of the Platinum, however ~$3-4K doesn’t seem worth it just for the looks, not to mention Platinums are hard to find.

Wanted to know if anyone who has a Platinum thinks it’s worth it?

As much as I like the TRD PRO, I would never use all of the features, however, the wave maker color is calling me.

you can option a limited pretty close to a platinum (major feature wise) and save about $2000.

you only lose out on some minor QoL creature comforts that you have to pay as either PIO/DIO were as the platinum it is standard.

some examples where its standard on a platinum and optional ($$$)

1. the digital key, standard on the platinum but $375 option on the limited,
2. digital rearview mirror
3. no 3rd row in plat, non HV limited gets 3rd row
4. rain sensing wipers, n/a on limited
5. tow tech pkg

also on the platinum, you get black gloss mirror caps and door handles and wheels (exclusive to platinum)

on the limited the mirror backs and door handles are paint matched and you get different wheels.

platinum get slightly blue colored seats (regardless of exterior color) where as the limited you can get black seats.

platinum only comes in HV version, limited you can get either (you can save about $3000 getting the non HV limited)

Agree with everything you stated. I am looking at the HV Limited, I don’t have a need for the 3rd row. I really like the black accents on the platinum. The blue seats are intriguing, I want to see them in person, however, I haven’t seen a platinum in my area on any of the dealerships in my area.

as others have mentioned in other posts, I am drawn to the all time 4 wheel drive. That’s what has me staying away from the TRD pro not to mention the wife is not a fan of the camo seats.

yeah i require the FT4WD for winters up here in ND. usually i am on the road before the plows at 5am (late start) or as early as 430am if there was a bad snowfall during the night for work. i work 4x10 schedule.

too many hills in town to deal with and inclined stop lights just makes it easier to move from a standstill with the FT4WD during winter time.

the majority of the town is in a valley. so its uphill coming and going. i live on the south side hill of the valley.

Don’t buy a 1st or 2nd year Hybrid
Do you think there is/will be issues first few years? Genuine question because the LC has been out for a little over a year now and I haven’t seen any issues with the hybrid system.

I ask because Toyota has been making hybrids for years. Understand this is the first for the 4Runner, but hybrids aren’t a first for Toyota.

Hey OP - Running an underground Limited trim here and still very much actively been doing some research because I do find myself looking for certain features that the Platinum model offers. That said, here are some of my feedback points:

  1. Limited is best for people looking for an optional third row OR if you're looking for something a bit more upscale and don't find yourself wanting stuff like:
    • the digital key
    • digital rearview mirror
    • rain sensing wipers
    • tow tech pkg
    • heads up display (HUD)

That said, all of the above with the exception of rain sensing wipers can be added in after the fact (maybe not tow tech package) if you feel like you really need them. The only thing I actually wanted was the HUD and you'd kinda figure they'd include that on a $62K MSRP vehicle
  2. Platinum looks a touch better - I'm a huge fan of blacked out cars and the chrome on Limited trims absolutely drive me nuts. I plan on blacking it out and changing out the grille as well, but if I got a platinum it would've saved me most of the trouble

  3. Limited interior looks better; the Platinum trim's blue interior is kind of weird to me, but that's certainly subjective

I am in the same frame of mind as you on all three. The options included with the platinum are great but not a deal breaker or are included in the Limited I am looking at. 100% agree on the blacked out look vs the chrome and would be doing that my self. Also plan on swapping out the grill for the heritage grill, just like the look of it.
Thanks for the reply.

Depends how important the exclusive interior, Rearview mirror, auto sensing wipers and the HUD are to you.

For what its worth, wife wanted a Limited and when we saw a Platinum in person, we went with the Platinum.

HUD is also only available on the Platinum trim. I also can't stand the plastering of more Chrome the higher the trims, GM does this as well and I hate it. I find excessive Chrome just tacky after a while.

If you do swap out the grille, please do post an update in terms of cost, ease of process, eta. Looking to do the same myself bc that chrome grill is absolutely killing me

My guess is it would be just cheaper to go a Platinum at that point. In the iForceMax configuration, is only only like $2000 difference.

The HUD was my deal breaker. Having one on my last 2 Venzas, every time I drive another car I subconsciously look for it and find myself forgetting to look down at my speedometer when it's absent. It's one of those 'once you have it, you always want it' things for me. Such a godsend when doing long treks at night.

The new Rav4 will have HUD (which stopped me from considering the current gen) so I think it'll get rolled out to more models and won't require the top trim eventually.
