I'm now considering the ideas of mounting with super strong rubber coated magnets to the front bumper...or mounting with suction cups to the inside of the windshield. Has anyone here ever tried either of these options?

I am trying to do this. Dropped front skid plate to acess space behind front bumper plastic to adhere either magnets or metal there. Got my arm up in took a few pics with phone. There are some plastic obstructions (e.g., appear to be female housing for wire harness clips - empty on my ORP), so 8" bar mags may not work horizontal on the plate. But I think I'll fiddle with some smaller mags, placing either mags or metal adhered to backside of bumper plastic. Don't know to what extent various sources of adhesion may interfere with magnet force. Checked strength of pull using a piece of thin rare earth mag from an old hard drive and the pull was sufficient through the plastic with a piece of metal held against backside of bumper plastic but that's with no adhesive between metal and plastic.

I'm not sure about the magnet method after some thought. For strength required to hold through the plastic, I was thinking neodymium N52, cylinder shape, a few ~1" diameter Ă— 0.125 - 0.25" thick. But I'd be concerned about debris getting attracted. Also uncertain about losing it due to rough road forces, or the fact that someone could easily pull it off if they wanted. And generally uneasy feeling with having my front bumper magnetized, as I "don't know what I don't know" about the realm of potential problems surrounding that.

guys just use 3M tape. License plates aren't that heavy. Hell, even some high end valences, front spoilers are held on by heavy duty 3M tape. The plate isn't going anywhere if mounted right (alcohol prep, heat up tape prior to mounting, let it sit for 12 hours. It will be solid. Many do it around my car groups. The best option is not to run a front plate at all ;)

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely consider that but I am getting full PPF with a Ceramic Coating so I'm not sure 3M tape will adhere to it well.
Here in Texas it's law that we have to have a front plate. Yes, we could roll illegally but I'd rather not call any attention to my illegal window & windshield tint by not having a license plate on the front somewhere. Surely there has got to be a solution that is acceptable without drilling holes.

I understand. It's illegal not to run one here in CA as well, but the majority of cops don't care because so many don't run them. But if you must, even with PPF, it will hold up. Get the industrial strength stuff and you won't have an issue. So many guys in my car groups use the tape. Again, many spoilers, front and back, body valences, etc use the tape with no issues. ]

I even mount bluetooth units onto my motorcycle helmets with just 3M tape and they've survived for years with windspeeds up to 150mph.

Just clean the area thoroughly and you'll have zero issues. DO NOT DRILL holes in a beautiful brand new bumper.

I’m so glad I live in a State where a front license plate isn’t required. ?

Idaho is required for front license. Neither the truck or the 4Runner have license on the front. Been pulled over a few times they never mentioned it.

I need to find a solution though…the dealership predrilled for their stupid license plate covers the day before I picked up my 4Runner. So now I have holes in my bumper….

That sucks! I'm glad I remembered to tell the Sales Manager & the Salesman to most certainly NOT drill any holes or apply any dealership advertising garbage to my vehicle. It irks me that dealerships do that especially when a vehicle has been pre-sold & without the customers' permission.

This is a completely avoidable thing and they have no right to do this
