2025 4 Runner TRD Pro
Hey there! I am Joe, located in Alexandria VA. I actually just picked up a 2025 4Runner TRD Pro. I moved away from an X3M, loved the vehicle but wanted to try something different. Ironically this is my wife's dream car so this will be sticking around for some time if I decided to go with something else (Most likely a TRD Pro Taco).

Hi all and thanks for letting me into the Forum. I just picked up my fourth 4Runner and this forum was really helpful in figuring some things out. My 4Runner history actually started when I got my first Toyota 4WD (1992 SR5 V6) in late 1991. I drove that for six years. After some other vehicles, I got a...

- 2010 SR5.

- 2012 Trail (my wife let me replace the SR5 - traded it in for less than $2k less than I paid for it with 36,000 miles on it).

- 2020 TRD Off Road Premium - my new employer had a vehicle policy which, amongst other things, required a white vehicle. My 2021 had around 110,000 miles on it and I got a nice trade in value.

- 2026 TRD Off Road Premium. My 2020 (with 129,000 miles) was going to age out in October. Since the company relaxed their color policy, I got to go back to my old favorite - silver.

Likes:

1) The different instrument cluster options - I wish we could have more information on the cluster at any given time, but it's still cool.
2) Driving performance.
3) Was able to turn off a bunch of driver assist systems.
4) Clean install of Toyota Dash Cam (had it done by Toyota of Kirkland and they did a great job).
5) Old style oil filter so I don't have to fight with the canister style cap.
6) Car play (once I figured out how to prevent phone from hijacking it).
7) Styling. A little more ground clearance would have been nice but it's still awesome.
8) Front seats - feel like the sport seats in the 1992 SR5.
9) Of all the vehicles I have owned, this was the easiest one to pair with my garage door openers.
10) Off road driver assist and cameras. Used this once or twice on my 2012 and 2020 and it was cool.
11) Camera's for parking assist.

Don't like:

1) Very limited storage for pens, napkins, etc.
2) Have to switch vehicle to "sport" every time I start it.
3) Visibility out the back and off to the sides is not good - glad to have the blind spot monitoring!
4) Miss the old manual shift transfer case :).
5) Wish I could have gotten the hood with the scoop and different contours - probably an easy swap but won't do that.

Weird:

1) I keep getting a red light in the upper left hand section of the instrument cluster indicating what appears to be unfastened seatbelts in the rear - maybe because that's where I put my computer bag.
2) The engine sound is noticeably different when in sport mode. It's almost like some sound is coming through the speakers.
3) Front skid plate seems flimsy. Although I have never had a skidplate contract in my 50 years of driving (except that time we took my '78 Celica to the gravel pit).
4) The front edge of the vehicle is not as obvious as it was on me past 4Runners. Not sure if this is due to the color, contour of the hood, or I am still getting used to the vehicle.

Next steps:

1) Dash cam (Toyota) - done.
2) New tires (BFG AT) - done.
3) Husky liner floor mats.
4) Toyota cargo cover.
5) Toyota all weather cargo mat.
6) Toyota crossbars.
7) Ceramic paint coating.
8) Rockblokz mud flaps (would have been happy if the Toyota ones were installed as an option).
9) Pro-Tech screen cover for main screen.
10) Hood protector if I can find one I like - leaning towards the Weathetech.
11) Consider Toyota extended warranty.

Thanks again for all the great information on this forum. I spent a lot of time on "toyota-4runner.org" and will continue to as it's a great resource with great people behind it.
