I’d drive down from PA if someone was planning something. Also, I am heading to Overland East in VA in October in case anyone is going.

I am in Michigan but every summer I road-trip from Ann Arbor to Fredericksburg. Last summer, I decided to check out Shenandoah National Park, it was only around 1.5 hr west of Fredericksburg.

Go on OnX off-road and check out all the trails. Like 1,500 acres of land with every terrain imaginable. Make your life easy and use someone like Off-Road Consulting and do one of their green trail rides at Rausch or AOAA. Easy way to get to know the place without having to know anything.

I second the suggestion to use Off-Road Consulting.
I did the Blue guided trail ride with them back in February (which Rock Doc knows from our DMs). I posted a few photos and comments about my adventure there in "Epic" Trip on Potts Mtn. The Blue trail ride was quite challenging and I enjoyed it thoroughly - even with a flat and needing to be winched. The guides were great.
I probably wouldn't go up for Green's only but the Hard Green/Easy Blue guided Ride at Rausch Creek on 1 Aug is something I could be up for - and what fun to be on the trail with other 4Runners instead of just Jeeps and Broncos (which has been the case for me every time:>)
The other advantage of using Off-Road Consulting is that you avoid the Rausch Creek membership fee - so it actually ends up being $10 cheaper and logistics are all handled.
And maybe Archer might show up - he is a member there.

Yes, been there twice and 95% Jeeps and Broncos. One Ineos and did have a 3rd gen 4Runner this past time and a Chevy Colorado. The Blues can be tough but I don’t shake a stick at the Greens either. Cut my sidewall last time and broke part of my rear shock. Lots of very decent hits on the undercarriage.

Here is a list of trails I've done in the area:

- Canaan Loop
- Forest Road 18
- Peters Mill
- Flagpole knob (Union Springs)

I'd say the Canaan loop is still my favorite, although union springs was the most technically fun/challenging. I'd love to test the limits and try something a bit harder, although I'm 100% stock and even on union springs I was using almost all of my clearance.

I highly recommend Bald Mtn (AKA Big Levels) trail - just SE of where I-64 hits I-81 <10 miles directly South of Staunton.
Similar rock terrain challenge as Union Springs but with 2 notable differences:
- much less crowded (I saw no one 2 weeks ago at 9:30-11:30 vs being on top of Union Springs with literally 50 other vehicles in late Feb);
- potential for significant water/mud crossing challenge.

The water/mud challenge of Bald Mtn really depends on how much rain there has been. I was there 2 weeks ago just after several days of rain broke our drought but it was still less challenging (depth-wise) than when I ran it in early January. If its been raining a lot and that area emerges from its current severe/extreme drought than you should go with someone with a winch:>) Right now, however, I think your 33's will make it fine. However, you may want to get some skids for the rock challenges for moderate difficulty trails like Union Springs (onX-4) and Bald Mtn (onX-5 but probably 4 in the drought)

I have been talking with a coworker about going up there when his truck is out of the shop.
