I have this shove and has saved me in the snow a number of times and doesn't take up a lot of room. I did get a good deal on it years ago paying less than half what it costs now.

I know it's not very overlanding, but this is what I use: 18 in. Wood D-Grip Short Handle Carbon Steel Compact Digging Shovel

Works great for digging cat holes too.
