Basically what the title says. The minimum for having remote start from the app used to be $15 a month but now it's only $8 a month. For me that was enough to enable it for Wisconsin and Canadian winters. We'll see how long it takes Toyota to raise the price...

Me Too! I just paid my first $8 per month this morning as today is my one year anniversary (so my first year of free connected services expired). I'm very hesitant to pay $15 per month for what I consider to be a seasonal feature, but I'll let the Toyota Man take me for $8 per month for the winter convenience as of now. I'm yet to get consistent results with remote starting from the FOB (which might be user error).

@4R-Sport it takes me 3 or 4 times to get the fob to work. My thumb doesn't seem to be able master the sequence. The other thing is that the fob only works when you're a few feet away.

I run into the same issues. I can't seem to consistently get the button / FOB timing down even when I am within range and very close to the 4R. I find it annoying and I don't feel as though I should annoy my retired neighbors by making the locks beeps a dozen times trying to get the remote start to work in the morning.

Originally I was annoyed by all of the door notifications with the remote connect, but I have grown to like being able to check on the status. I just had my 4R undercoated and even though I was miles away I pretty much knew when the job was completed due to the status notifications.

so they broke out remote connect as a seperate service now ??? its no longer part of the $15 plans as a free bonus ???

if they did, they went back to before they integrated them into the $15 plans.

i wonder why? the only guess is more people were not signing up for the $15 plans but would have if only the remote connect was available like it was for $8

1st and 2nd press need to be held for around .5 secs and delay around .5 secs and hold on 3rd.

dont watch for the lights to blink, the delay watching for blink will break the sequence

It was news to me until last week. I started getting the subscription expiring notices and decided to check it out. I was planning on seeing the $15 per month as the only option (based on what I've read), but I selected the $8 per month option and opted out of as many of the tracking agreemernts as possible. Today is my one year anniversary and I received this confirmation this morning.

2025 2026 4runner 6th gen Toyota Remote Connect is $8 per month now Screenshot 2026-10-27 135049

I've read the manual, watched videos, reviewed posts here, etc. I'd give my remote start via FOB efforts about a 50% chance without paying attention to the beeps and lights. It's inconsistent enough for me that I still have to confirm it is running or risk stepping out to frosty or snow covered windshield. With the app, I know when it has started.

Interestingly enough, years ago I used to be the best on the block when it came to OG gaming consoles, but I struggle with the button timing on the FOB.

well i guess i lost money on the 2yr additional years. they charged about $315 for the 2 yrs and 2yrs of $8 is around $180

oh well, i am glad they went back to the old price plan. maybe they learn, you get more money for less cost when more people sign up for the cheaper plan than no one buying the expensive plan.

I'l skip it. I rarely need to remote start and when I do, I have the fob. I am genuinly against these upcharged subscriptions. Saying that, I have some subscriptions elsewhere that I value the benefit.

In a cold climate and with "iffy" key fob connection, it might be worth it. My keyfob seems to work fine at a distance but again, its been used 3 or 4 times in 1.5 years.

in agree, it really depends on your weather conditions. for me and the wife, when its below zero during winter, its a life saver (especially for her since she works in a metal building and it attenuates the signal badly) and the walk is pretty far to the building.

on the flip side, those in horrible hot states can benefit from the vehicle being cooled down from the heat like in Arizona or Florida

I would love it if they could extend the run times out to 20 mins per start. That way I would actually defrost a window.

you can remote start it twice for 10 min each. after the 2nd remote start you have to actually open the door to reset the 2 remote start lockout.

I agree. 10 minutes is not long enough as the little 2.4 liter takes some time to produce enough heat with defrost value. As @Nodak said, you can remote start back to back for a total of 20 minutes which I have to do frequently. It's not convenient, but then again there are countries where it's illegal to have unoccupied vehicles running and remote start is not an option.

Life would be easier for me if my dad's project cars (41 Desoto & 64 Chevelle) weren't taking up my garage space! My parents are my neighbors, but they always seem to have room in their garage. 🤔

I would think if you have remote connect and it sees your location that they could apply a location based policy to allow people in those unrestricted areas more time. I already think it the app blocks vpn work arounds.
